My husband is allergic to cat hair and has an ocd cleaning thing so he doesnt want to see animal hair anywhere or he'll end up taking it to the pound. When we got a puppy , we had to pay 1000 or more to get a Yorkie because they don't shed. Well I am an animal lover. Especially cats. Does anyone know a certain kind that does not shed or doesn't shed alot. Or a cat that is good for people or are allergic? or something to put on the cat that helps?

I want answers from people with this experience, not stuff you heard on tv. They aren't always right.

The Sphynx is the naked cat but they are not really hypoallergenic. They still produce dander but because they have no hair or fur you can easily wipe them down. They are not good for climates that are very cold.

Some people swear by the Devon Rex and say that those are hypoallergenic. I don't know for sure.

The Siberian Cat is the one that I can speak about with authority since I have bred them since 1994.

They are hypoallergenic to most with a dog like personality.

Please do not confuse hypoallergenic with non-allergic. To date I know of no mammal that is non-allergic.

I have had wonderful success placing Siberians into homes with allergic parties.

Well, I am allergic to cats and have a slight OCD thing too. When I adopted Jake a year ago, he really didn't shed, he was a baby so it was not that bad. Six months into having him, he was shedding like crazy, my nose runs every day, I have had allergy pink eye twice, and I sneeze all day long. I love him so I won't give him up at all but I have to vacumn every day, sweep the floors every day and clean the bathroom where his litter box is at least twice a week. It's a lot of work and animals get attached so if your husband is mean enough to bring an animal back then do not get a kitten or be prepared to do a lot of work. You can always look for a hairless cat. There is really nothing that you can put on cats. I give mine a bath every 4 months to help with the hair and I brush him every day but I still need to feed him quality food to keep his coat shiny.

There are two types of cats that I can think of right off. One is the Rex, if you don't like the naked cat thing. If you don't mind the naked cat look there is a breed that is completely hairless. I do not remember the name of the breed though. It is the type of cat that was on one of the Austin Powers movies. Great for allergies. I hope I helped.

A hairless cat or hypo allergenic cat. those are basically your options. I'd for for the hairless just in case. They are really expesive though.
