If you have a nervous disposition it may be a good idea to get a friend take you to some open ground e.g. an empty car park when it is unlikely to be used. With the friend's guidance learn to master the co-ordination of the clutch, accelerator and foot brake; learn to start the car moving but keep throttle openings small i.e. keep the car moving slowly. Start to get the feel of the brake to stop gently. You will pretty soon get used to the star/stop procedures and you will gain in confidence to the point where you will be able to shift gear and do 360 degree turns (right and left). Probably quicker then you think you will feel "at home" in the car in terms of starting, changing between first and second gears (maybe even third gear but don't get carried away and go too fast.). It's quiet possible you will get to enjoy the experience of limited driving of the car and that could come in 2 or 3 hours. At that point you should consider formal training with a view to taking the test. I feel it's important for a complete novice who recognises his/her nervousness should get to master the very basic start/stop, slow turns, gentle stopping before even going on to the highway. Not everyone will agree with me but at the end of the day you must do what you feel is best for you. And I must tell you I never had a lesson before I drove a car or motorcycle. The only lessons I had were flying. But I did take a an Advanced Motor Cycle test when I was 68.
Have a go and aim to enjoy driving; it offers great pleasure in terms of convenience and.scenic enjoyment and it it can be FUN|. Good Luck!!

Use your natural caution to your advantage. The fact that you are treating both learning to drive and the hectic state of our roads with such concern is a good thing. I am sure you will make a much safer driver than many of the young lads who are over confident and think driving is easy and then end up wrapped round lamposts.

Go for it girl and enjoy the freedom driving can bring!

just do it. you already know that there are good drivers and bad drivers. after all the years i drove if you are paying attention to your surroundings you eliminate some of the danger. there is nothing out there that i have not driven. i think i have drove in every state of the united states.take small steps, get a learners permit. most of the time if you are learning to drive you do not need to be with a friend or family member, they are more apt to yell at you go pay two hundred dollars to learn to drive. use those same people to take your drivers test with. now you have your license. it is always better to be by your self. drive on some of the better streets. especially where the is light traffic now get out there and do it kid

Stay off the road until you have confidence to be behind the wheel. To get over your fear, practice in a cleared parking lot when no one is parked or on a long stretched road with no traffic; make sure your parent monitors your driving.

There is only one thing you can do. Learn how to drive. The driving vehicles have dual steering wheels and brakes. If you get into any bother the driving instructor will steer you out of the way. This should help you build up confidence to drive.

Practic will build confidence. Try driving in empty parking lots with only a few other cars around. It might be boring, but just keep practicing. I had to use a driving school, because my dad was so tense he would scream at me. Just don't give up, you will do fine.

Explain how you feel to the driving school. They will give you an instructor to put you at ease.
