Tasty, fun, and messy. That sounds like my favorite sloppy Joe's and corn on the cob.
Brown and drain 1 pound ground beef
Add 1 cup of salsa (whichever heat level you prefer - I use Medium Chunky)
Add 1 cup tomato sauce
Heat through. Serve on hamburger buns or over rice.
Some people like their sloppy Joe's more "sloppy". If you want more of the sauce, just add equal amounts of each until you get the balance you want.
Corn on the cob
Shuck and rinse the ears of corn.
Boil enough water to cover the corncobs...add the corn to the boiling water carefully (may splash). Keep them on high heat and let them boil for 5 to 7 minutes. You can tell they are done if you can easily pierce the end of the cob with a fork or a corn skewer.
Serve with butter and/or salt.

For a nice messy dinner my favorite is to line the dinner table with Freezer Paper and place as many cooked crabs as there are people at the table - along with the crab cracker for each person to crack their own shells. Also have on the table a bowl of mixed salad, a bowl of toppings for the salad like cooked asparagus, sliced hard boiled eggs, black olives, drained artichoke hearts, cheese, whatever you like on your Crab Louie and a bowl of Thousand Island Dressing.
Everyone cracks their crab and eats what they want as they go. The rest goes in a community bowl. Then you make your salads and top it with some more of the crab. Pour that dressing over however much you want and you are good to go! Here's a nice Thousand Island Dressing recipe:
THOUSAND ISLAND DRESSING
Take 1 water glass and pour about 1 inch of pickle juice into the glass (sweet or sour - your choice). Add about 3 T catsup and 2 T mustard. Add about 1 tsp celery seed and fresh ground black pepper. Then add about 1/3 c mayonnaise and stir well. It's OK to see some white spots in it - that's the mayo. If you want it with a kick, add about 1/4 tsp ground red pepper or cayenne.
Enjoy!
You DEFINITELY get messy with that. Give everyone a towel to tuck under their chin.

One I like is a simple pasta dish that gets your hands messy.
Get a couple pints of cherry tomatoes - if you can find the pints with a mixture of cherry, grape, pearl, mini heirloom...even better. Cut them in half and throw into a bowl. Cover with a generous serving of extra virgin olive oil, kosher salt, pepper, 2 cloves of finely chopped garlic and a couple teaspoons each of fresh oregano and marjoram.
Now the messy part - with your bare hands reach in a squeeze all the ingredients in the bowl together so the tomatoes burst.
Boil some linguini, drain and put back in the hot pot. Hit the pasta with a little bit of olive oil and grate some fresh parmigiana over it. Toss the tomato mixture together with the pasta.

For messy, you really can't go wrong with crab legs and lobster tails. And dipping them in warm lemon garlic butter. And all with hands. And tearing off bread from a good loaf and dipping in balsamic and olive oil.
This is our favorite anniversary dinner. We don't even use napkins, we use dishcloths for wiping hands!

Have tacos and make Mexican rice on the side. Mexican rice is easier if you cut up all the vegies first.
One medium to large onion about 1 cup can use frozen, about one green bell pepper(1/2 to 1 cup) can use frozen chopped, 1/4 cup chopped celery can use frozen, 1 clove minced garlic fresh is best. One cup rice, jasmine or brown is best! Use a heavy skillet, heat about a tablespoon of vegie oil I prefer canonla oil, add the rice and stir gentley until rice is golden and/or puffed. Add the vegies. You need to add 2 chicken boullion cubes the garlic 1-2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1/4 teaspoon ground oregano, 1-2 teaspoons dried cilantro or about 1/8 cup cut up fresh, add either diced or stewed tomatoes 1-2 cans. Add 2 cups water. Stir and taste. For color, you can add paprika. For spicey heat add one chopped chili pepper, green or red. (We grow our own chilis and use them or a store bought jalapeno.) Cover and cook for 20 minutes for white rice, 50 minutes for brown rice. This is good with ANY MEAL. My hubby likes to make brunch by frying chicken and making gravy and buscuits and heating up leftover Mexican rice.
To make a full meal out of the rice, add ground, cooked meat and a vegie like peas or corn.
Hey, Serena, your sloppy joes recipe looks great, I never thought of making them with salsa before. Thanks for the idea!

messy-anything with barbecue sauce that you pick up and eat, like ribs, cook them in the slow cooker all day, then you can finish them up in the grill together and add the slathering of sauce.
