You would have to remove the partition that holds Vista and reformat the hard drive before install XP. As part of the XP install, it ask about partitioning and formatting the drive while asking where you want to install it. So you actual remove the Vista as part of the XP install.
Just boot with an XP CD in the CD drive, let it start the Windows Set up, and follow the prompts from there. It is possible that you might have to go online and find XP drivers for some of the hardware in the computer (usually the audio card).
Remember that it will delete EVERYTHING currently on your hard drive, so if you have any pictures, music, videos, documents, etc that you want, back them up first.

As long as it is not an upgrade, but the original verison.
You will lose the Vista which a lot of people are not happy with anyways.
XP is still the best OS at this time.

Yes. There are two ways you can do this, you can dual boot the system - where you choose which OS you want during bootup, or you can replace Vista with XP. You can find some good instructions for dual booting at http://apcmag.com/5485/dualbooting_vista_and_xp

Of course you can. As long as you search the Internet and gather drivers that will allow all of your hardware to function with Windows XP, there's nothing stopping you.
