People that invoke Christianity in their arguments against abortion rights are dead wrong.

Abortion was actually known of and practiced during Biblical times. However, the Bible has nothing in it that actually mentions, let alone condemns, abortion.

All of these fundamentalists that are constantly screaming about how God hates abortion are basically lying about the scriptures.

They like to take a bunch of verses that really have nothing to do with the subject and try to force them into applying to their irrational and insane theological miscarriage. But its all just lies at its base.

The Bible specifically condemns things like wearing two different types of cloth at one time, getting tattoos, and eating shellfish. If it will go into such specific detail on strange little things like these, it would surely have actually literally mentioned abortion if it ever meant to condemn the practice.

The closest the Bible comes to actually mentioning abortion is in the Book of Exodus:
22 And if two men strive and smite a woman with child, and her child be born imperfectly formed, he shall be forced to pay a penalty: as the woman’s husband may lay upon him, he shall pay with a valuation. 23 But if it be perfectly formed, he shall give life for life, 24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

These verses are talking about a case where there are two men fighting who then accidentally harm a bystander that happens to be a pregnant woman, resulting in an accidental miscarriage. These verses aren't talking about a deliberately induced abortion by the pregnant woman.

Again, it can be seen that the scriptures go into rather great detail concerning the acts they condemn. However, despite the fact that the Bible even deals with such rare events as the one discussed here, there are no scriptures that deal with the practice of purposely inducing an abortion. If Jehovah really wanted the practice forbidden, he somehow forgot to mention it.

I think my view starts with the stage before the need of abortion, in other words contraception. More men and women (unfortunately boys and girls) need to practise sex safely if they are going to have sex at all. If they do not have the ability to take precautions they should abstain until they are mature enough to deal with the outcome of unprotected sex. There are always exceptions to the rule and the exception I would make is forced sex (rape), when the ability to take precautions is taken away. Some religions would argue against contraception - and that would fall under a different question. My answer is therefore that less women should use abortion as a means of contraception.

God I wish I believed in abortion, would've saved me a lot of money and a marriage. Anyway, I'm an Atheist... Hi!

Yes, because I am an atheist I believe that all life is precious. Further more as a philosophic athiest, I believe that people need to consider the consquences of their actions before they take them.

When one VOLUNTARILY has sex, they knowingly or unknowingly accept a few consquences: preganancy, STD, and heartache. Abortion is an unwillingness to face those consequences. You cannot abort herpes or AIDS now can we. Heartache might be the worst of the three. I can agree with abortion in the case of Rape or Incest. Why? Because the woman did not choose to have sex and therefore the choice of abortion is her first say in the matter. But to be selfish and quell a life for no other reason then pure selfishness is wrong. Of course as a philosophic athiest I understand the pressures unwanted babies place on society and so do not think we are ready for it to be outlawed yet either. Why? rusty coat hangers... rusty coat hangers.

Christians who are rabidly pro-life obviously don't get this from the Bible. There is more child-killing in that book than anything. :-(

My view on abortion is simple. Keep it safe, legal, and lets all work together to make it very rare by advocating sexual responsibility and contraceptive use.

This obsession with bringing more human life into the world makes no sense at this time. The Earth is overpopulated, and there are many children starving to death all over the world. Even in the U.S. there are many children going to bed hungry. Child abuse is a sad fact.

Wouldn't we be better off with fewer children that are wanted and loved?

Education is key. Free access to birth control and teaching young people self respect and only to engage in sexual relations when they are in the context of a loving committed relationship and to use contraception until they are truly ready to become parents is all very important.

Abortion is not a pretty thing. It can cause severe emotional problems to anyone who has one. Still, it IS THE WOMAN'S CHOICE!

I personally believe that the soul chooses its parents. If for whatever reason the pregnancy is terminated (miscarriage/abortion) the soul will come back either as another child, grandchild, niece/nephew. My mom had an abortion when I was 11. My daughter was born 8 years later. I have a feeling she was the sister I was supposed to have. We have always related like sisters.

In Islam abortion is not allowed in any case except if the mother's life is at risk like she could die if she were to continue with the pregnancy. That is the only time it is allowed. In Islam we are taught that the fetus becomes a human and gets a soul at 4 months. Before that if it is terminated then it is not a human and doesn't go to Hell or Heaven. Also we are taught that we shouldn't terminate a life because it is deformed or has mental disorder because we get more credit for taking care of a baby that is physically or mentally handicapped. We are also taught that if the mother wants an abortion and the father doesn't then the father's rights and wishes supersede the woman's because the father is the one who provides for the child not the mother. It is also taught in Islam that we shouldn't kill a child out of fear of being poor because we are taught that ALLAH(SWT) provides new wealth from unexpected places whenever a child is born. As a Muslim I believe abortion is wrong in all cases except if the mother's life is in danger.

10 points for Mato!

I'm not quite sure of why "christians" have cornered the marked on the right to pass judgement on the morality of abortion. Does this mean that if you are jewish, buddhist, muslim, hindi, or some other religion, that it doesn't really matter one way or the other?

Don't get me wrong; I am neither pro- nor anti-abortion. I just think that everyone's circumstances are different and that the whole thing should be a personal matter, not a legal issue. And where exactly in the bible does it say "thou shalt not abort thy fetus"? "Thou shalt not kill" doesn't quite cover it because if you're going to go there, you may as well include eating hamburgers and swatting mosquitos.

I would much sooner a pregnant girl who could not afford to keep a baby without relying on benefits have an abortion, than me as a tax payer supply money to support her mistake, the money wasted on unplanned babies could then be used to pay for drugs that seriously ill people require but are refused, such as Altziemers and cancer drugs, babies are not babies until they are born, really ill people have already got a life, commitments, families, responsibilities and a personality, a baby does not, in these days of brilliant contraception there is no excuse from either the father or mother that means anything, if they cant support their offspring, abortion should be compulsory.

Abortion must be legal!

However, it is vital that counseling be provided at the front line for every woman who wants an abortion, especially under-aged girls, and information about adoption, plus refuge for pregnant women who fear their parents or partners. Then more women would choose not to have an abortion. Let the pro-lifers dig into their pockets and organize funding for these services, in particular large entities such as pro-life religions.

If legal abortion is not available, girls will be committing suicide on purpose, or accidentally by trying to induce an abortion, or murdered in dingy hotels by paying for illegal abortions. She could be 12 years old! What if she were Your daughter or Your sister? Would You lecture to her dead corpse about morality?

It takes only one such personal tragedy to make a person see that the problem is a lot bigger than just the debate about the unborn.

If your mum had decided to have an abortion - you wouldnt be here today would you - Ive got a couple of friends who were told later in life by their mothers that they were going to abort them. This left my friends feeling rotten. In other words, they were unwanted - not a nice feeling. Thats exactly what people are saying when they abort a child

Abortion in most cases is a selfish case - why have sex if you dont want want comes with it? Thats the main purpose of sex isnt it? Its as if every law in the bible people want to oppose. What next murdering your neighbour is wrong because "society has changed". So many women out there want kids but cant and you have selfish people aborting left right and centre. At least give the child up for adoption if you dont want to raise it eh?

God said do not kill - this applies to abortion, Euthanasia whatever - its not your choice to decide whether a child should be born. You had your choice when you had sex - if you made the wrong when - then tough.

that counts for me too - I had an unplanned pregnancy - but I love my daughter to bits. i wasnt married and the thought of being a single mum reduced me to tears. Today, I dont regret a thing.

All this rubbish about - its not a baby yet - so what is it then - a piece of fluff? How would trees grow if they didnt start off as a seed? Everything has to start somewhere

If you dont believe in christinaity - forget your blog and abort anyway - obviously you have made up your mind. But remember, when you do have your "first child" you will always remeber the one you could have had

that is affected my preliminary concept of abortion. whilst i grow to be youthful, i grow to be given a algorithm. you recognize, mendacity is undesirable, stealing is undesirable, killing is undesirable. whether, there are issues that are no longer strictly perfect or incorrect. eliminating abortion would not advise each little thing will fall into place. If we are to have self assurance all existence is powerful, shouldn't that incorporate lives that have already been commonly used? i do no longer in user-friendly terms like the thought 2 human beings had intercourse and at the instant are dealing with a potential guy or woman who did no longer ask to be conceived, no longer to point aborted (that is barely one difficulty of many). I additionally do no longer in user-friendly terms like the belief of forcing those human beings to bypass by 9 months of economic, actual, and hormonal tension. that is merely of the parent(s). What on the subject of the conceived being? i'm no longer professional-abortion. i'm professional-decision. I lean heavily in the direction of bringing the fetus to term and making the in charge decision, yet i won't be able to deny the different decision. Witnessing 2 generations of stripling mom and dad with a low socio-economic prestige is undesirable. permitting 3 generations might in user-friendly terms advise an added era of suffering. My faith has taught me no longer in user-friendly terms to view the existence, yet additionally the welfare of that reported existence. i desire there will be a time whilst an entire education on the subject of the human physique and extraordinarily intercourse may well be made available to all so as that whether human beings accessible merely ought to have intercourse, they might habit themselves in a fashion that does no longer even require abortion instead.

it is always up to the individual person or people mother and father but their are many reasons for not wanting a child and as long as it is not becouse the baby would be an inconvenience then i am fine with it after all we don't always know the reasons for it and showing contempt for those who choose to abort the child should not be scorned for others views. if it was illegal their would be more back lane abourtions and the loss of life would be greater
