My Indonesian-Dutch neighbors gave me a recipe for a cottage pie different from the regular recipe. The regular recipe, as I recall, has a white sauce gravy under the potatoes. In fact, I believe the difference between a Pot pie and a cottage pie is the crust - the pot pie having a pie crust and the cottage ie having a potato crust. The recipe my neighbor gave me uses soy sauce and the meat and veggie mixture is more like a stir-fry but it's topped with the mashed potatoes, sprinkled with bread crumbs and dotted with butter. The soy sauce mixture heats the underside of the potatoes and causes some of it to dissolve into the soy sauce, thicking the sauce. Just a variation on the cottage pie.

What is it? If it's made of cottage cheese, yuck, I hate it, if not, maybe I like it :-)
