Yep, last August Fred came down with a big spot of it. I asked the vet and they said they prescribe miconizole a 2% solution, but you can get a 4% solution at the pharmacy or drug store. Instead of paying $20 for the cream from the vets, I went and got a generic $8 tube of Miconazole from Walgreens, if you want a brand name use Monistat 3, that's the only one in a brand name that has 4%.

Put the cream on three times a day on the spot and rub it into the line of fur at the edges too. The fur will start growing back in shortly. I kept treating for a full month on Fred, but by then he was pretty well healed up from it. It never came back.

If you have a pet pharmacist in your city, ask if they have a liquid for ringworm, this is easier to get into the hairline, I just found out about it from someone last week. It works just as well as the cream and only takes two applications a day.

If YOU get ringworm from the cat (Fred gave me one spot) use the same medication on yourself. But with people they want you to be treated for almost 2 months. It's a pain in the butt to keep doing, but it does clear up. And the medication is cheap enough.

Fast Ringworm Cure?

My kitten had ringworm. It showed up a couple of weeks after I adopted her. The main places ringworm show up is on and around the cat's ears and on the hind legs. The vet gave me an oral medication and little wipes (kinda like stridex pads) to wipe her. It took several weeks to go away completely, but there was improvement in a few days. Unfortunately, myself and others caught the ringworm also. If this happens, get anti-fungal cream (mainly advertised as athlete's foot cream) and rub it on the place as early as possible to prevent the ringworm from growing and spreading. Keep using the medicine daily for a month even if the sore is gone to prevent it from coming back. Ringworm can live on fabrics for up to a year, so it is really hard to get rid of. Be sure to bleach your sheets and wash your hands frequently!

I work with an animal rescue and have dealt with many cats with ringworm. They have liquids you can bathe the cat in. Pills that you can give them and fungus ointments to put on the spots. A vet is your best bet although there are also homeopathic remedies too. Actually human ointments for ringworm that you can buy in most any store will work, but you must be careful because cats can ingest it when they groom themselves. Remember if it is ringworm it is contageous, you can get it as well as your other cat! Fungal spores are easily spread.

I have 3 kittens that I fostered since they were 2 weeks old. They had ringworm as well as a staph infection of the skin. The vet gave me Lyme sulfur to bathe the infected area in only every 4 days. I also give them a medicated bath every day with a medicated shampoo, plus an antibiotic orally twice a day for 10 days. They should be confined to one room and you should use a hand sanitizer after holding or touching them. Also wash their bedding or towels with hot water and bleach. I also sprayed and wiped the area with a Lysol germ killing spray. You are also supposed to vacuum daily throwing the bag away. When bathing the kittens, you need to gently pull off scabbed areas but not if it is going to bleed, especially on the tail, because they can loose circulation if the tail swells around the scabbed area which could cause the tail to die. One of my big cats did catch the ringworm because she got in the room a couple of times, but I just treated hers with the creme that is used for athletes foot and it went away. I read that on a web site and it worked. Ringworm is a fungus like athletes foot and is also air born that is why it is so easy to catch. The kittens are now 6 weeks old and their fur is coming back and the ring worm is gone. Good luck with yours and I hope the info I gave you helped.

ringworm does not come from fleas..it is not even a worm at all but a fungal infection. many years ago I found a litter of kittens that had ringworm (little round bald patches on their skin) The vet gave me a powder that I had to dissolve into water and then I had to bathe the kittens in it twice a week for 6 weeks- it worked like a charm but I can't remember the name of it now (it has been 22 years) and they may have something new on the market that may be more effective and less laborious to use- call the vet- they will know

I thought me cat had ringworm and took him to the vet and they did a scraping and a culture and it wasn't ringworm. He would have given an ointment and it takes a while for it to go away. I think there is also a pill you can give the cat. My cat, as it turned out was just OCD (obsessive comulsive disorder) and had licked that spot until all the hair was gone and it was raw from his sandpaper tongue. he did this twice. he's fine now, although we have always questioned is intelligence. We love him though.

Ringworm is very common. Cats can pass it on to humans as well. It is exactly that a fungus that grows in a round circle on your skin. t is very easy to get rid of on you and your cat. Your cat would require Revolution. You will get it from your vet. This also helps cure ear mites, fleas, ticks, round worm, and heart worm.
For you if you do see that you have it on you go to a walk in clinic and they will perscribe you a topical cream. If you can't get in right a way a yeast infection cream will do just fine. It's not a big deal and won't hurt your cat. Some cats live with it all of their lives and unless the owner is prone to getting the fungus from the cat it could go undected all of it's life. So don;t worry just take your cat to the vet to get revolution.

My cat had ringworm and the vet gave him some kind of creme, I don't know what it is. Be very careful because you can get it to. Always wash your hands after petting him! It took about 2 weeks to totally clear up. You need to take him to the vet.

well -- there are steps you need to take -- it's very very contagious -- to you and your whole family including children and other pets

1) take him to the vet -- he needs fecal and blood tests and medication

2) you must -- must use either frontline or advantage on the back of his neck every 30 calendar days - don't miss it --- that's how my cat got fleas i was only a few days late with his advantage and he got a fleas --- and ring worms come from fleas

you can bring fleas in your house from being outside -- my cat never goes outside -- using a product like advantage or frontline is your only weapon against preventing ringworm --- don't settle for those fake products like a flea coller or generic flea products you need to get flea control from your vet -- you and your pet are tooo important

good luck
