My bridal shop will steam my gown for free. Yay! Unfortunately, my bridal shop is in Pennsylvania and I have a 3 hour drive to New York. The shops in the area aren't so helpful, they only steam dresses bought there. I have been told to hang the dress in the bathroom and run a hot shower. Honestly ladies, does this work? Has anyone tried it? Better suggestions? I'm reluctant to take it to a cleaner because we're only going up the day before the wedding and I'm afraid it won't be done in time.

The small hand steamer idea definetly works. We did that morning for my dress. If the place is steaming it for you and your just driving back down, lay it carefully in the back dseat and hang it up as soon as you get home. Then the next morning, see if you need to use the hand steamer. I got my fdress 2 hours away and they steamed my for me too. I just laid it in the back seat and drove the two hours home.

I definitely suggest to buy a small hand held steamer. If you can not have your dress professionally pressed, then this would be the next best thing. The steam from the shower does work, but may not work well depending on the type of material your dress is made of. Heavier silks tend to not let go of the wrinkles as easy.
If you use the hand held steamer use it far enough in advance that if your dress is damp it will dry. (hairdryers are good to dry spots that get too wet, make sure to use it on the LOW setting.)

As long as the shop will steam it for free, get it done by them. Then lay it carefully in the car for the trip to New York.
You can buy a small hand steamer at Target or maybe Bed Bath & Beyond for about $30. Then just hang it up and steam it to get the wrinkles out. (Although the shower might work as well.)

The steam in the bathroom does really work. But be sure to try this SEVERAL days befor ethe wedding just in case there are too many wrinkles. If you have it hung long enough and use the bathroom steam, the wrinkles will eventually fall out.

Call a cleaner and get one to agree to do it for you. Or you can buy a hand-held steamer at Walmart and do it yourself. Personally, I'd get on the phone and get a commitment from a professional, for my wedding.
The bathroom trick is hit or miss. It will only stand a chance of working if the dress is polyester.
