Picadillo!

mmmmmm
The following can be added to white rice or used as filling in the "pastelitos" recipe in the dessert section to make small meat pies. For picadillo you can use ground lean beef or turkey.
1 lb ground meat
1 large onion, chopped
2-3 garlic cloves, chopped
1 small can tomato sauce
1/4 cup dry white wine
Pimiento stuffed olives
Raisins
Salt and pepper to taste
In a large skillet, brown the ground meat, onions and garlic. If meat is not too lean, pour out whatever fat you render.
turn heat down to medium low. Add the tomato sauce and wine. While it simmers, chop up the pimiento stuffed olives and add to meat mixture, it is ok to add a little bit of the brine, if you wish. Add the raisins and adjust the seasonings.
I like my picadillo almost dry, not too soupy. Serve over fluffy, white rice. If you like it soupier, just add more tomato sauce and/or wine, if you wish.
For the pastelitos, let the sauce simmer almost to dry, so you will not have a runny mess on your hands.

My Indonesian-Dutch neighbors gave me this recipe when I was growing up and it's very good. I served it to a group of kids about 10 years ago and they wolfed it down! It's very easy to make and hits the spot. The only thing you need to serve with it is bread and butter to sop of the juices - not rolls - just bread and butter.
ROTMOK (this recipe serves 5)
1 onion - chopped
3 carrots - chopped
2 potatoes - chopped
1 can kidney beans - drained
1 can green beans - drained
1 can peas - drained
2 cans condensed cream of tomato soup - undiluted
1 lb ground beef
Saute the onions until translucent. Add the ground beef a small chunk at a time. Then add the carrots and cook 1 minute. Then add the potatoes and cook until the meat is no longer pink and the carrots are tender-crisp. Drain the fat except for 1 T. Then put in the cans of veggies and add black pepper to taste. Add a little water to thin the sauce so all is covered and continue cooking until all is hot.
Serve with bread and butter.
I have also served this in homemade bread bowls where you eat the stew and then eat the bowl. The only thing you have to wash is the pot and your silverware.

I was actually thinking of making this a few days ago. In a frying pan sautee up a few cloves of garlic with 1 small diced onions. Then add your ground beef with seasoning salt. I would say at least 2 tbsp. If you have it add a sprig of thyme. Once the beef is browned up add 1/4 c. of ketchup and 1/4 c. of water. Let this simmer for about 20 minutes. Serve over rice. Or if you are really ambitious with fried dumplings. This is my favorite. I have been making them since childhood, so I know the recipe, but this web site makes it really easy. Be prepared for your first batch to be a little hockey puckesque. You need to be patient and let the dough rest a little. http://www.jamaicatravelandculture.com/food_and_drink/dumpling.htm.

I just made this the other day on my George Forman grille, would work on regular grills too of course:
Ranchero burgers:
1lb beef
1/2 cup kidney beans, drained and mashed
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 Tbsp. prepared BBQ sauce (I used jack daniel's, Mmm)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Mix together thoroughly the beef, mashed beans, garlic, bbq sauce, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 patties.
It then says to cook on the GF grille for like 5-6 mins, probably about the same for an actual grille, or if you would want to cook them in a pan.
The bbq sauce really made the burgers delicious. Reminded me of the jack daniels burger at TGIF. I also melted pepperjack cheese on the burgers once they were done and ate with whole wheat sesame buns. Served the meal with tater tots and brown rice. Yum! I hope you find a recipe you like, good luck!
