Confession to a priest isn't nessecary. Repentance is something that literally means "to turn". It is turning away from an old life and turning to a new life that follows God. It is turning from sin and turning to God. Confession is only a PART of repentance. Our sins should be directly confessed to God. Repentance is saying that you know that what you did was wrong, that you are sorry for what you did, that you want to be forgiven, and that you want help in leading a new life.
Rememember this --
1) Confession is between you and God because ONLY God can forgive your sins. A priest cannot forgive your sins. Your sins are NOT against a priest -- they are against God, so ONLY God can forgive them.
2) No matter what sin you commit, God will forgive you and help you to lead a brand new life in Him.
3) There is nothing you can do that makes God love you any less. He loves you dearly and nothing will change that.

The actual word normally translated as "repentence" means to "turn away from". Confession is the action of admiting your sin. You usually have to do that first before you will deal with it. Repentence is then turning for it, meaning that you stop doing it in the future. While they work together, they are a little different.
My favorite verse that shows the two is 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive them and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". We start by confessing the sin to Jesus/God. Then we are in a position to be 1) forgiven for them, but also 2) cleanse so that we do not do them in the future.

You don`t need a priest or anyone to be repentant .
repentance is when you realise the wrongness of what ever you did and feel shame and remorse to the extent of knowing you wouldn`t do the same thing again

Jesus delegated the power to forgive sins to the apostles. The apostles appointed successors and passed this power to them. Today, we call those successors bishops and priests.
Catholics believe that the priest stands (or sits) in the place of Jesus and through His (Jesus") authority your sins are forgiven. It is a very powerful experience.
Repentance and a firm purpose to sin no more are a necessary part of the process.

It means at the very least confessing your sins before God and taking an oath to not do those things anymore.

Repentance means to give up do away with. If we have to go to church and ask for foregiveness for the same thing all the time, that's not repentance. To continue that way in my estimation is blasphemy of the lord. Thou shall not tempt thy lord thy god.

It means you must ask forgiveness from the one you've offended, make amends for the offence, demonstrate that you won't do it again, and only then can you ask God's forgiveness.

To feel remorse, contrition, or self-reproach for what one has done or failed to do; be contrite.
To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one's mind regarding it
To make a change for the better as a result of remorse or contrition for one's sins.
You don't have to go to a preist. Jesus came so we could confess our sins to God directly through him. All you have to do is say, "God, please forgive me of...........In Jesus Name. AMEN and REALLY mean it.
