Organize a surprise trip somewhere fun. You can EASILY do camping for $200. Just tell him to leave his weekend completely free because you have a surprise for him. Gather up the tents, sleeping bags, etc. Then kidnap him and have Friday night for Romance. Arrange for some of his buddies to meet you there the following Saturday morning for hiking, etc. Then you guys can party on Saturday night around the campfire. On Sunday, you can either recover from hangovers, or go do some more hiking.

It's more thoughtful to plan something like this than it is expensive. All you have to do is buy hot dogs, beer, chips, etc. Make the arrangements at a campground. Get one or two other couples to meet you up there. I did that for my honey. Planned a rad trip to Yosemite. I kidnapped him, then kept surprising him all weekend! Friday, we settled in and had a nice romantic dinner with candle light and wine and steak. Then romanced all night. Saturday morning, I got three of his guy friends to show up with their girlfriends and we all went hiking. On Sunday, I got his parents to come (they stayed in Yosemite from Sunday through Thursday for their own vacation) but it was really nice. I would run up ahead and hide presents in trees. I did a scavenger hunt and the winning team got a bottle of wine... the losing team had to jump in the ice-cold snow run-off river!

It was a lot of fun!

Don't give him a gift ... take him on a 'fall picnic' ... and do the cooking yourself if possible. You'll need a good thermos to hold some soup, and you'll need to make some nice sandwiches which should be put into a 'plastic sandwich holder' ... pack your food and the 'dishes' into a nice basket, and tell him that you are 'done' with the picnic stuff after you've washed it, because the picnic stuff is your 'gift' to him. You'll have picnics in the future, and that 'gift' will become a 'good memory' for both of you.

How about a paintball gun or something like that. Or you could get him a new hiking sack or hiking boots, or something similar.

Or you could do something unique...buy yourself some new clothes for the bedroom, dress up real nice and well...seduce him from the moment he arrives. Drive him crazy and make it all about him. Or if you are both still living at home with parents get a hotel room for a night. Just remember, if you do that you need to focus completely on him. It is after all his birthday treat.

Edit : Candles do nothing for a guy, we are purely visual, all we need is for our woman to be dressed to kill and a bed. Candles are for women, not men.

Get him a sword, you can never have too many. I've got like twelve of them now, and I still want more. I look forward to any excuse to get a present.
