Thousands rally in La. to support Jena 6 By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer
25 minutes ago

JENA, La. - Thousands of chanting demonstrators filled the streets of this little Louisiana town Thursday in support of six black teenagers initially charged with attempted murder in the beating of a white classmate.

The crowd broke into chants of "Free the Jena Six" as the Rev. Al Sharpton arrived at the local courthouse with family members of the jailed teens.
Martin Luther King III, son of the slain civil rights leader, said the scene was reminiscent of earlier civil rights struggles. He said punishment of some sort may be in order for the six defendants, but "the justice system isn't applied the same to all crimes and all people."

The six teens were charged shortly after the local prosecutor declined to charge three white teens who hung nooses in a tree on their high school grounds. Five of the black teens were initially charged with attempted murder

I think that we're forgetting the bottom line here. These 6 guys attacked and beat a guy. Let me say that again, SIX GUYS, beat up one dude.

Reasons aside, they beat him up because of his skin color.

But nobody cares about that. If it was 6 white dudes that beat up one black guy, it would be a hate crime of the most extreme magnitude, and rightfully so.

I'm getting off topic. None of that should matter.

They went 6 on 1 and assaulted a guy. Case closed. Lock them up. It's not racism, it's not unfair, it's assault and it's illegal, and you go to jail for it. Simple as that.

What would be unfair is if 3 black guys got together with 2 white guys and beat somebody up; then only the 2 white guys went free. This is not unfair. If me (a white guy) and 5 of my, white friends beat up a guy, I could fully expect to go to jail for it and you can BET nobody would organize a march for me.

All that said, was the guy being a moron? Probably. Did he maybe deserve a little of what he got? Probably. Are he and his friend swamp-rat hillbillies? Yeah. But hanging a noose in a tree and being a racist, while stupid, ignorant, and retarded, is not illegal and doesn't really hurt anyone.

So there ya go.

The local KKK doesn't cause this much of a stir. If you visit this area, there is a county where the Klan flag is just as common as the American flag. These kids need to be punished, but it should have been handled by the school. I also mean the white kids who hung the nooses. You people are too sensitive. I'm not a racist. People made nooses all the time at my high school using the strings from the window shades. All that ever happened to them was their parents were called, and maybe suspension.

Yep a very big difference between a rope in a tree and a boy beaten till he was unconscious and beyond for what a word if that.

The boy had blindness and a swollen head and still has headaches which of course a doctor can't determine the cause and yet grown people can't understand why they want these poor innocent jena 6 locked up.

If it were me or my kid I'd lock them up and everyone here knows they would too.

Nope I'm not a racist just confused as to why they a white boy getting beaten means nothing while a rope in a tree which hurt no one physically is more imprtant.

This is the first i have heard of this but I'll tell you my opinion.
1. Martin is right... the justice system isn't applied the same to all crimes and all people. If it was then we would have a computer to do it. Fortunately we allow humans to judge humans so special circumstances can be considered. A ninety two yr. kleptomaniac shouldn't be treated the same as a young adolescent. As far as the nooses go... what were they for? Was it a racist threat of was it something else? Jumping to conclusions is more dangerous than getting to the bottom of problems. Stop jumping to a side simply because that side resembles you most.

Everyone here acted in an unacceptable manner! The white kids should have been charged for the nooses! Shades of the KKK. The black kids are no better! Where are the parents! Al Sharpton should meet with the boy the black kids beat and apologize.

a great deal yet in user-friendly terms by whites do i adventure it. i'm at the instant residing in a Jena 6 type environment in a bigoted city the place there is the regulation, yet then there is the way those bigots do issues. i've got had to record countless civil rights strikes that are pending. That Jena 6 difficulty, if i need to be there i may well be there to march and communicate out the following day, Sept. 20. that is obvious the Black boys have been dealt with distinctive, with such racism and prejudice than those white boys. whilst they hung the nooses [the white boys] they ought to have been expelled for an prolonged time and hatecrime costs filed against them, yet oh no; they have been excused and dealt with a lot in yet in a distinctive way, with extra favortism than the Black boys. I easily have come to the unhappy end that bigotry merely merely will never disappear and that is customarily practiced time and time back by regrettably, whites as commonplace. Now that is rampade by different races who despise whites. permit's settle for it, whenever you pay attention approximately racism or blatant outrageous acts of discrimination, ninety 8% of the time that is accomplished by whites, yet they proceed to disclaim, deny, deny, and not because of the fact they doubt the reality, whether that is complicated to confess whilst your race is in charge for many unrest and racial conflict in no longer in user-friendly terms u.s., yet especially a lot international. i've got seen that lots of the time, they do exactly no longer care yet know they're the concern with maximum all racism. I merely exist anymore, incredibly [I advise with them]. i won't wait till Armageddon.

Ridiculous- the charges fit the kids, black or white doesn't matter. All those protesters would be pushing for attempted murder charges if the races were the other way around. I think the charges fit the crime on this- sick of everyone turning everything into a race issue.

Six teenagers beat another teenager unconscious.

If people really want racism to end, they will stop defending indefensible behavior because of the color of the skin of the defendants.

Who cares if other people were imprisoned unfairly? No one is on trial except the criminals who committed this horrible act.

What if six teenagers of any race(s) had beaten a black teenager with that much viciousness?

The hypocrisy of the outcry will only make racism worse.

"the justice system isn't applied the same to all crimes and all people."

I can certainly attest to that. My family received a threatening letter from a neighbor about our dog barking. I called the pigs, er, police, who made a half-harted effort to find the perp. If I had been a judge or politician, the FBI would have been involved and the culprits found and prosecuted. Now, when the pigs call for donations I ask them how the investigation is comming along then hang up on them.

I am very far from racist I assure you. But the boys who hung nooses didnt physically hurt anyone. If the 6 black kids had hung a flag that said kill whitey or something it would have been a different story. I am so far from excusing what the white kids did because they should have been punished and something should have happened to them but physically hurting anyone regardless of race is unacceptable.
