How can I ask a question on here that I am interested in hearing others' answers to, without people assuming that I already have a "right" answer in mind?

Is there an accepted way to signify that I'm not full of BS or tyring to offend and/or subtly try to attack their beliefs/lack thereof?

That is so odd, Ideogenetic, because I actually believe the opposite on that one--I was trying to say that just like Xians wouldn't be convinced by a quote from Darwin, they can't expect others to be convinced with Bible quotes.

I guess some things will just be misunderstood when we can't see people's faces as they say them. (and emoticons are kinda annoying)

People in and of themselves are prone to assumption in all things. Yahoo Answers is no better. I guess the best thing would be to encourage serious thoughtful answers by phrasing a well worded, non-judgemental question.

I wouldn't worry about it. People in person are persuaded by the power of your presence and not by reason. As a matter of fact, reasoning is mostly rationalizing, have you noticed? The good rationalizers run the world. They hoodwink the intuitive and boggle common sense to pull it all off. Trying to reason with them is falling into their trap. Their real message is that their the man. No ego there. But the meek have been trained and their getting the hang of it. I just appreciate a good answer. I don't see all the rest or any part of any answer that missed the mark. Even God is too pure to behold evil. That's to live backwards. They don't mean any harm, we've been taught it's a dog eat dog world. We just haven't been taught that we're not dogs. Even they hunt other species.

you have a tender heart and take the negative comments personally, As in answers to this question, most come to help, it is from their own frame of reference.
helped people help people
hurt people hurt people

if we let the mean spirited person transfer their meaness to us then we become part of the problem and not the solution.

Every rose has its thorns, Look to the rose, yet dont forget to be careful of the thorns, and most with exposed thorns/problems have them because they reject the solution (removal of the thorns or care not to be pricked by them.

For many they truely want to get to the heart of the problem, While others refuse and are seeking other alternatives.

And your words on faith and the bible, probably go back to a time when you were thorned by a mean spirited person using the bible to thump you.. Look to Jesus the rose of the plains of Israel's Sharon. The all powerful one that gave everything to answer our hearts biggest questions in life and beyond.

Read John chapter 3 to the searcher Nicodemus, the way to be born anew, the sweet pea praying for you, and look up above the thorns of those that take good and use it to abuse, what have you got to lose.

I am new on this site and am not familiar with your previous postings, but I think that your presentation and wording in this question reflect your sincerity. Perhaps it would be helpful to note in each posting that you seek a serious, nonjudgmental response. As an aside, I have observed on this site a disproportionate amount of judgmentalism and stereotyping from those who make no claim to a belief system than from those who do. As I understand it, the R&S section is for people who are interested in religion and spirituality, rather than for those who are hostile to them. Perhaps Y!A can accommodate us all with an additional section.

It's really quite simple....Just ask a question you don't know the answer to.

The best way to avoid what you're talking about is to ask objective questions, questions that have no hint of approval or disapproval for any position.

For example, conservatives are always asking questions like, "Why do liberals hate our troops?" This is obviously false, demagogic, conservative rhetoric.

An objective way to ask the question would be, "What is the best way to support our troops?" (Best answer: take them out of harms way to bring them home alive).

Here's an example using your own question: "Would you believe it because Darwin said it?"

That is a snarky, slanted way to ask the question that seems to impugn Darwin. To say you were "interested in hearing others' answers" is disingenuous.

I have seen many state that they were honestly looking for the answers and opinions of others. You could state that you are not arguing or stating your opinion but, that you just want to see what other people say and think.

What I used to do was put a disclaimer before the question, saying how I wasn't bashing

sad eh?
