It doesn't say that. One of the Hadiths mentions 72 hur, which translates to "white grapes." Some nut came along and said it supposedly means virgins. That's how the rumor got started.

It has long been a staple of Islam that Muslim martyrs will go to paradise and marry 72 black-eyed virgins. But a growing body of rigorous scholarship on the Quran points to a less sensual paradise — and, more important, may offer a step away from fundamentalism and toward a reawakening of the Islamic world.

…The Quran is beautifully written, but often obscure. One reason is that the Arabic language was born as a written language with the Quran, and there’s growing evidence that many of the words were Syriac or Aramaic.

For example, the Quran says martyrs going to heaven will get “hur,” and the word was taken by early commentators to mean “virgins,” hence those 72 consorts. But in Aramaic, hur meant “white” and was commonly used to mean “white grapes.”

Some martyrs arriving in paradise may regard a bunch of grapes as a letdown1. But the scholar who pioneered this pathbreaking research, using the pseudonym Christoph Luxenberg for security reasons, noted in an e-mail interview that grapes made more sense in context because the Quran compares them to crystal and pearls, and because contemporary accounts have paradise abounding with fruit, especially white grapes.

The mention of húr in the Holy Quran as among the blessings of paradise, promised to the true believers in the life after death, is much misunderstood. This word and certain other associated terms are mistakenly considered to mean beautiful, young maidens, to be given as reward in the after-life to Muslim men, and on this basis the teachings of Islam are maligned and criticised as pandering to the crude, lustful desires of men.

We quote below some commentary notes by Maulana Muhammad Ali in his English translation of the Holy Quran, explaining these terms and their true significance. The following points emerge about what these blessings of paradise are:

* They are the fruits of the good deeds of a person, whether male or female;
* Their nature is entirely different from anything that is, or can be, known in this world;
* These rewards are meant for both the male and the female believers equally.

You will not find this promise of 72 virgins in the Qur'an.
The concept is in Ishaq, one of the books associated with the Hadith. The Hadith is a collection of additional books Islam uses to explain and apply the Qur'an.

Ishaq:518 "Masud was one of those who found martyrdom at Khaybar. Muhammad said, ‘He has with him now his two dark-eyed virgins. When a martyr is slain, his two virgins pet him, wiping the dust from his face. They say, "May Allah throw dust on the face of the man who did this to you, and slay him who slew you!"'"

The Quran doesn't say anything about 72 virgins. I think someone just made that up to appease all the men.

The Qur'an says 72 handmaidens not virgins. There are handmaidens which are servants for the Muslim wives in Jinnah. If a Muslim woman gets to Jinnah each Muslim wife gets 72 servants to help her out in Jinnah or do things for her. They aren't for the men. The person who made it virgins is a sexist.

Why wouldn't Allah award eternal sex to his faithful followers? And why would Allah consider it an orgy if it was a heavenly reward? I don't know very many men who don't think sex is the height of pleasure. And why do YOU think sex in heaven would be something shameful? Just a comment. I know very little about the Quran personally.

This is how, i screw and confront all those who say that 72 "virgins" are awarded for a suicide bomber ,

All are just nut cases, bent upon defaming Islam, and don;t worry they will never succeed in this "mission" of theirs
