At least the presence of mind to retain the # 88 was a good choice for the fans who had tattoos # 8 on their body, now all they have to do is add another 8 and thats it. Those that bought jackets, shirts, caps and the like I guess they aren't so lucky. What you think?

Well, I do see your point. I am looking at it this way. All the #8 stuff the fans have can continue to be worn, displayed, used or whatever. It will show pride that they have been fans of JR.'s since he was in the 8 car. It will be a point of pride for them...Years from now, they will be saying, "I've be a JR. fan way back when he first drove the 8 car"....Good for them!

Yep, all of us will have to get new stuff, just like the Bobby Labonte fans did when he went from the 18 to the 43....Numbers in all sports change its just the way it is...You will still see the familiar 8 around until people buy all new stuff, yep jr will probably have 45% of Nascar things bought in 2008. I have to get all new everything even my cats collar, tag, bandana and cap and stadium chair that he sits in during the races in front of the TV...Think I'm going to need a part time job....Don't have to worry about tattoos never got one.. but the 14k jewelry might have to wait a while.

Actually they are lucky. In a few years when the old 8 stuff is gone they will have something that will appreciate in value. Same goes for any driver's memorabilia.

Now personally I don' like tattoos so they'll have to deal with that on their own.

we have to start our collections all over again.

did any of you see what i'm guessing an old commercial with Dale Earnhardt Jr. announcing his new number, and then all his fans went nuts because they all had a #8 logo or tattoo and now they had to go change it again. then Dale goes on and says, "just kidding. I hope there wasn't too much harm done (something like that)"?

Oh well what do you want him to do? Buy everybodys old paraphernalia with the number 8 on it, other fans have had to do it, and if your that stupid to mark up your body with a perfect strangers name or number oh well deal with it. put everything in a box and start all over!!!!

Start over and let your old collection sit tight!

A lot of famous sports figures have done this over the years.
Kobe Bryant, Roger Clemens, Michael Jordan and more. It will just make the old items worth more and rare.

I think it's cool b/c wasn't that his grandfather's number back in the day?

I'm just wondering what the people with tatoos are going to do when he joins Childress at the end of his career to drive #3.
