I made an apple crumble last night, with apples from my neighbours garden. He doesn't know I've got them, should I offer him a bit? Would he like custard or cream with that?

So you have been scrumping, although if your neighbour is a reasonable person, it is good to have fruit picked, but you should have asked him first, the flat under us has a rosemary bush, I cook a lot of lamb and would like to use it, of course with herbs, the more it is picked from the better the plant thrives, so if I want some, I will ask first. Do you get on alright with him? if so, ask him if you can have some of his apples and he says "Go ahead", make another crumble, or pie and give him some! Or better still make him a crumble or pie for himself!

BTW, if a branch hangs over your fence, you are owners of the apples and are perfectly legally allowed to pick the apples!

There's a bunch of factors. Do you run into him a lot? Is he friendly? Do you think he'd get teed off about you trespassing? Or would he be grateful that there's not so many apples falling on the ground to rot and he'd have to clean that up?

You could offer some (not the whole thing) and say you made to much and oh these apples at the store are so expensive right now and you'd hate for them to go to waste. If he likes you, he'll probably say "Please! Take some of mine! Anytime!" If he's not that way, then don't take any more apples.

I found that out from my neighbor. I offered her my cherry tomatoes when they were out of control. She said I could come over and pick herbs anytime since hers were out of control too!

I wouldnt tell him you have already taken some, but would go and ask if you could have any windfalls or apples that they arent going to use. He will probably be quite happy to pass them on to you, and then you can make him a crumble without feeling guilty!!

nah...say nothing. These apple trees are a magnet for annoying birds who then splatter on the neighbours cars and washing. I am sure you have been a victim of this too.
So the very least he owes you is a few apples....

You better check in his fridge for custard and cream first. Check the freezer for ice cream too...

If you think he wouldn't be pissed off about the apples, then defnitely offer him some!

Well if he hasn't missed them then he can't care about them.
I count mine everyday.
(it's very easy I only have one apple on my tree).
