Err... It was something instinctive, i have been attacked by a dog once, and for some time after that i made sure i had a handy stick or stone with me.
the prob with a dog is that you can't run away from it, and its very damn difficult to stand and look at it come running toward you with its big teeth. So i don't know what i would have done. Would you have been happier if he had left you there and climbed a tree?
I hear they can smell fear. In that case i sure would be happy to have you around when i find a great dane coming for me. A pug i could handle without any help, thank you.

Hi!
Well, he did it spontaneously, but the truth is that he is afraid of big animals, maybe. He must be a chicken.
But I wouldn't advice you to forget him, if you think you can bear this phobia and chickens don't really disturb you and if you love him for real, as well, I'd say to forgive him and go over it girl! Nobody's perfect, finally. If you see that it is not disturbing, don't walk away. But at first, find the limit of his phobias, I mean, rate how much chicken he is. Because if he just runs away, leaving you in downs, then he doesn't worth. Otherwise, go over it.
I know you will do the right, good luck! ;)

You sure he wasn't just messing with you ... pretending he was scared? I know somebody like that, who likes to play around all the time like they're scared of something. He might've known the dog ... OR knew of it enough to know it wasn't dangerous or ferocious. I think that if it bothers you this much, you should ask him about it. If he's really that scared of dogs, how's he gonna be if somebody breaks into your home when/if you get married?
Of course ... even if he IS afraid of dogs, that doesn't necessarily mean that other things scare him. He just might need something to break him out of his fear of dogs. It sounds like that crack about the bear may have been a joke to cover up how ashamed and embarrassed he felt that he had to hide behind you. Did a dog do something to him when he was younger that might've traumatized him or something? Was it that dog? I'd find out. If so, you can even start introducing him to other dogs ... slowly. Maybe you can get a puppy! Who can resist puppies?!
And remember ... if your 'like' turns to 'love', I don't think that'll be such a big, big problem. Do you really think that somebody will throw somebody he/she loves to the dogs (pardon my pun)! My bet is that he'll lay his life on the line for you then. Believe me ... people tend to leave their fears behind when there's a threat of somebody they love getting hurt/killed ... betcha he'll come thru!!!
Good luck ... and God bless!!!

That's not mean at all. Just he might have a fear of dogs. But he should have been on the defense for you though. Kind of a wimpy move. You might want to reconsider your feelings. Try picturing yourself in a real harmful situation such as some creepy guy approaching you. What would the guy do to protect you?

He admitted he was afraid of it !! Gee ,but to put you in danger before him wasn't cool, unless he knew you wouldn't be afraid of the dog. He probably KNEW you COULD handle the dog and he couldn't. Maybe next time you go walking take some dog biscuits incase and don't go anywhere a bear might be for both your sake!!

I'm laughing. His natural instinct was to save himself. I don't think he can help that. Although, at a party one time we were outside and saw something moving around in the woods and it scared the bejesus out of us. My brother in law was the first to run into the house (without his wife, my sister) but a friend grabbed me and my sis and pushed us into the house first. I just think people react differently and I don't really think you should read too much into it. My brother in law is an awesome person and we still give him a hard time about it.

That's so stupid of him! Talk about cowardly, its supposed to be the man that stands up for the girl not the other way around. And he probably meant when he said,"..but if that was a bear, I wouldn't do that." Of course he wouldn't! He'd be half way down the block before you could say "wait for me!"

He's afraid of dogs. He just didn't know what to say, looking a complete coward in front of you...so he said the bear statement. I'm sorry .

I agree if it was a bear he would have pooed himself then pushed you down then ran. In the face of ones fears, does the true nature of a person's character come out. Take this as an early sign of no backbone, and move on.

You're right...that was mean!! He needs to be a man and learn how to protect his woman. Men are supposed to be the "protectors" and "guardians" in the relationship.
He is supposed to stand in front on you, between you and the dog. He needs to grow up. Pick a more brave guy your age and you'll be better off. Good luck
