Fast and Easy Fresh Garlic Mashed Potatoes Recipe
These delicious garlic mashed potatoes have a light garlic flavoring that even the youngest family members will appreciate. Of course if you are a hardcore garlic fanatic you can easily make them spicier by simply adding a bit more fresh garlic to the pot while cooking.
6 large Idaho or Russet potatoes
6 Cloves Fresh Garlic
1/4 cup milk
3 Tablespoons Butter or Margarine
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Peel and cut potatoes into sections approximately 1 inch thick.
Peel garlic cloves and cut in half.
Boil potatoes and garlic together in a large pot, making sure that the water covers the top of the ingredients and the pot is large enough to allow for boiling, for about 20 minutes until potatoes are tender all the way through.
Drain off the water.
Add butter, salt and pepper.
Mash the potatoes and garlic together either by hand, (using a masher) or with an electric mixer.
When almost completely mashed, add milk..
Serve immediately while still hot.
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
If you enjoy a heavier garlic taste, add 2 cloves of garlic per potato

Anyone telling you to use chopped, diced, or otherwise raw garlic or garlic powder never had good garlic mashed potatoes before. It's pretty gross getting that raw crunchy garlic taste in your mouth with smooth mashed potatoes. Make mashed potatoes as you would normally (I'm sure you can do this) but preheat an oven to 400 and take some garlic and wrap it in aluminum foil and pop it in there for about 20 minutes. Take it out if you can poke a fork through the garlic no problem it's done. Take that soft garlic out of its wrapper and throw it in when you're mashing the potatoes, and some cheese if you like that. Bam, you have garlic mashed potatoes with roasted garlic, the best you can get.

I wouldn't use garlic juice, it's hard to find and it can ruin the dish if you put a little too much. Sometimes you can find it in the gourmet section of the grocery store.
You can use garlic powder, but fresh garlic will be tastier. Just bake a few cloves of garlic in the oven(wrap in foil) for about 20 min at 400F. then peel them and add the garlic to the potatoes before mashing.
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
INGREDIENTS
8 medium red potatoes, quartered
3 cloves garlic(baked~peeled)
2 tablespoons butter or stick margarine
1/2 cup fat-free milk, warmed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
DIRECTIONS
Place potatoes in a large saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are very tender. Drain well. Add the Garlic, butter, milk and salt; mash. Stir in Parmesan cheese if desired.

If you want to keep it simple you can do it with what you have. Cut the potatoes in quarters or in half if they are smaller. With the red skins you can either peel or leave it on, up to you. I personally like to leave the red skin on. Boil the potatoes until soft, drain, then put in a big bowl, mash them manually while adding butter, and milk little bits at a time. Add a dash of salt and pepper and the garlic powder is fine. I usually eyeball it so not sure how much, enough to sprinkle on the top but not too much, if you need to add more later while mashing you can. I then use a mixer and keep beating them and adding milk and butter until you get the texture you want. good luck

You can make it with what u have. But fresh garlic is better. you can buy chopped garlic at any grocery store and it last a long time. Peel the potatoes and boil them in a pot then drain them. Use a masher to mash them mix in some milk butter and garlic put in a little milk at a time to get the consistency you want salt and pepper to taste. Good luck

You're ok w/ what you have. Well they sell minced garlic at the food store, and well it has little pieces of garlic w/ the garlic juice... Its very good, I normally use it w/ a little bit of seasoning whenever I cook meat.
* oh and thanks for making me hungry... since i'm already here... let me ask you... do u know how to make meatloaf? You made me want to make some tonight w/ mashed potatoes lol.
I was going to recommend you use the mashed potato in garlic that comes ready (it's powdered), I use it all the time and no one ever knows the difference, but since you already have all the ingredients, you might as well use em lol.
have a great day!

When I make Garlic Mashed Potatoes I boil the potatoes (with or without skin) until tender. Drain the potatoes. Mash. Add the milk, butter and garlic powder to your taste . You may also want to add some pepper.

The easiest way to use what you have to make garlic mashed potatoes, is to cut up the potatoes and boil them in water, then drain. In a small pan, melt the butter and add the garlic salt. Stir together and add to the potatoes. I find that by adding the garlic to the butter while melting, it brings out the flavor of garlic. When mashing, add the milk in a little at a time. Hope this helps. Use what you got!
