Sure you can have it both ways. Like you said he is above time and space. If there really is a powerful being the lives forever, then time as we see it would mean nothing. There is no past, present, or future. so if time is not an issue, he can conceivably be anywhere at anytime. But, he still is one person, one entity; that has transcended from our world or dimension if you will.
But there is no reason to worry about something like this, for two reasons. One, the real actual answer is so far beyond our current comprehension that guess wouldn't do it any credit. Two, even if we knew this knowledge, it doesn't get anyone closer to heaven no matter you believe.
