Each step of the ladder is one of our existence. We live, we die and then we step up to the next level, until we achieve the top of the ladder and from there we will cheer and help others coming up the ladder as well.

Now, picture yourself in the middle of the ladder. There are people steps up and there are people steps down. All of us will eventually reach the top, it is only a matter of each one's speed and skills (some develop the skills faster than others). Therefore, everybody in the ladder is right on his/her own pace.

Ladder = spiritual progress
Steps = reincarnation (several lives)

Does it make sense to you as it makes to me?

Would this idea make you more humble, understanting and tolerant toward others?

Good analogy. But as you see by several answers here some people who are on the ladder think they're standing still. Reincarnation is a "mystery" that can't be fully realized until the individual is ready to accept the immense scope of his own true self. Jesus talked about it, his earliest church understood it, but the truth has been buried under milennia of dark and fearful mythology.

Of course it makes sense.

Its not true though.

You only have one life.

Oh and I wouldnt need the silly notion of reincarnation to make me humble and understanding.

The most humble people of all are the ones who accept the truth - this one life is all we have.

It's one philosophy.
No, it doesn't make me more humble or anything.
