You want an answer? An honest answer? It all comes down to media representations. Christians are superstitious and silly. Muslims superstitious and scary. That's what folks see on TV--goofballs on the 700 Club or the hilarious Jack Van Impe on one end and guys lobbing bombs at Hollywood action heroes on the other--so that's what they think. Forget that there is no correlation to the real world, where my real neighbors are--shazaam!--a Christian family and a Muslim family, neither of whom I would mock.

Post 911 issues of hysteria about Muslims could have caused total anarchy, so we cranked up the propaganda machine to keep order. We do believe in freedom of religion in this country and that means we have to defend the Muslims' right to freedom of worship.

In the US, Christianity is pretty much the historical bedrock, representing a huge majority of the US population. Citizens who are nonbelievers feel comfortable making fun of what they are familiar with, whether they like them or not. "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me." We believe in freedom of speech, and we're pretty confident it won't get any further than verbal persecution. That is not necessarily the case in other countries for Christians.

If our government hadn't done a huge PR campaign on behalf of the Muslim population here in the US after 911, people wouldn't just be making fun of them. There could have been fear and retaliation with violent persecution.

While I don't "make fun" of either group. I have no issue pointing out problems and outright lies about either. You may see more stuff directed at Christians rather than Muslims but that's most likely due to more people in the US being familiar with Christians.

The majority of posters here either are either from or in a predominantly Christian country. Islam isn't around us that much, while Christianity tries to find its way into our homes at least once a week. Naturally we are more familiar with Christianity.

That does not mean that I am not criticizing Islam: I am quite critical of it. Nevertheless, with members of the Christian faith on my doorstep on a regular basis, it's only natural that my comments will be more freequently aimed at that faith.

When a muslim shows up at my doorstep passing out flyers, rest assured he will be made fun of. Just as much as the Mormons, JWs, Baptists, and Pentecoastals.

There are very very few Muslims in my area. The one or two I know don't annoy me all the time. They just sell me kebabs and banter with me a while. I've never had Muslims shove appallingly written pamphlets in my hand in town, nor have they knocked on my door on a Saturday when I'm barely awake. No Muslim has ever tried to dictate to me what I can wear, what music I can listen to, who I can date...

If I lived in a different part of the world, I'd likely feel very differently. But I know next to nothing about Islam, except it's self-evidently a load of cobblers (that stuff about verses in the Quran being dictated by Satan rather than God...if that's they case, why are they even in the sodding Quran?) and on a par with Christianity in terms of good old fashioned bullsh*t, I do know about Christianity.

I find both religions equally ridiculous, but since it's the Christians who get in my face and piss me off, they're the ones I take the piss out of.

People that make derogatory remarks about Christians are too gutless to do the same thing to Muslims.

Few Muslims are as openly arrogant and hateful as some of the more vocal Christians (not all Christians; not even all fundies).

Also, the vast majority Muslims have not tried to inflict their agenda into our secular legal system, nor do they use rude and disrespectful methods to condemn those they disagree with. While not all Christians do this, those who do seem to do so in greater numbers.

It is OK because they have no holdof reality, and they continously try to impose their delusions onto others that never asked to become deluded. As long as they are so agressive, they are fun to make fun of. Try it and sit back and enjoy the show as it develops in front of you.

Christians are people whom hasn't developed mentally above the age of 8 years, so you see - there is a lot of fun to expect.
