I am looking to buy a TV this weekend. I am not sure what type to buy since there is so much new technology available.

What is a good TV to buy for about $400 to $500?

Also, what are good stores to buy them from?

Unfortunately, $400-$500 is no longer a "medium price range", unless perhaps you stick with the old CRT technology (the heavy, bulky one with a picture tube). Today, it's LCD, plasma, or even rear projection.

Here are 2 sites to read to get general info: http://www.Plasmatvbuyingguide.com and http://www.LCDtvbuyingguide.com.

Read these over and then make a trip to a large TV/electronics store, like Circuit City and/or Best Buy to actually look at sets. You will need, first, to determine how large of a screen you want/need. If it's under 42", go for LCD. If it's 42" and up, look at both LCD and plasma screen HDTVs - the plasma will probably be a bit less expensive for the same screen size. Stay away from brands you've never heard of in TVs, like Ilo, Insignia, Element, Vizio, Olevia, and Polaroid. In plasma, look at Pioneer and Panasonic. In LCD, look at Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi. And have fun!

I bought an awesome HP 32" inch LCD last thanksgiving for $700. Because technology always decreases in price, I'm sure you can get the same one for about $500 now. I got mine at Best Buy.

If not, look for 27" LCD TV's at BestBuy, PC Richards, Circuit City, and other major electronic chains. They should run you around $400-$500.

You can also look at discount stores such as BJ's, Costco, and Walmart, but beware of never-heard-of brand names and pretty much the same prices.

Good luck!
