I had fin aid from my school but I haven't been awarded any for this year. I pay out of state tuition and I don't want to leave the total burden of that on my parents. Plus, my rent went up for the year and my job just doesn't cover it.

The Astrive Student loan is actually a TERI loan. TERI stands for The Educational Resource Institute. They are not actually a lender but a guarantor and servicer They partner with banks to give you the loan. The difference with the Astrive is that you will receive the money at home ( it is not sent to the school). I hope that you have exhausted your federal options before gong with a expensive Alternative Education loan.

Alot of students do not want to ask their parent's to do the PLUS but it is such a better option. If you ever run into issues paying the PLUS, you have options. With the Alternative loans, it is kin of like the Jay-Z song ( **** you, pay me).
Goo Luck!!!

personally I don't like any lender how advertises on TV, makes me think they are only out to get money from you and not help you reach your financial aid goals. Talk to your financial aid counselor about private loans they have worked with in the past and what approach you should take to finding one that will work best for you, if that is astrive great but you will have at least weighed your options. You of course want to use as much in Stafford or Perkins loans as possible.

If you have received a stafford and still have need check with your school about a perkins loan. The alternative loan or private loan should be your last resort. There are much better alt loans out there from Citibank and Wachovia. Both are no fee loans.
