When I lived in my first apartment everyone complimented it. I swept, I mopped, I decorated it, I did everything. I've been living in my 2nd apartment for almost 4 years now. In the beginning I dust, mopped, changed the covers, washed the dishes, bought things for the house, but now I'm living in a situation that I never dreamt of. Now I would let the dishes sit in the sink for almost 2 weeks, I haven't changed the covers on my bed for 2 years. When my cat spit hairballs up on the carpet, I don't clean it up for a month. I don't have company cause I'm too embarrass. I have stuff all over the floor. There things thats been going on in my life like 4 years ago I lost my father and 5 years ago my mom was diagnosed with alzheimer. I've been taking medication for depression and anxiety for 14 years. I'm overweight and I have joint stiffness. I don't have kids. I'm not in a relationship. I don't understand it. What's wrong with me? Why all of a sudden the changes?

It sounds like you may be suffering from stress or depression. IN both cases, things that you once enjoyed doing (like taking pride in your place) no longer appeal to you. Since you've had this trouble with your family, your symptoms are probably worse. Since you've been on medication for depression for so long, it may have stopped working. You need to tell your doctor what you told me and see if you need a higher dose or a new medication to get you back to a more normal state of mind.

Good luck.

I've been there. I wouldn't answer my door my house was so awful. Cat puke all over the place. I was severely depressed because I had lost my mom the past year,my fiance was thousands of miles away etc and it took going to counseling to get my act back together. You need to do something(but you know this or you wouldn't be asking us). It's not healthy to live in a place so filthy and not fair to your cat plus if your landlord finds out you might get evicted.. Make an appointment today because maybe your meds aren't working for you anymore. Maybe if you just start cleaning something it will make you feel better too. Something simple like change your bed linens and clean the cat box. Good luck.

I did that when I went through a depression. In therapy, I realized that what I was doing was not investing myself in my apartment, because in actuality I did not want to stay where I was. Could it be you don't actually like the place you are living at and have thoughts about moving away? Or, it could be delayed reaction from the events of your life, or just a result of slipping into depression again. Time to take stock, re-evaluate what you want and don't want. Maybe think about a few sessions with a therapist to talk some things out. It helped me.

i think it's because of the depression. it is an expression of how you feel inside. you need to learn to love yourself no matter what, think about how you want to be treated, think about how you would treat someone you love with your whole heart, that's you! i think a good place to start is your bedroom. wash everything on your bed, your pillows too. clean it like your moving a new baby in. take it one room at a time, one a day. eating 5-6 small meals a day is good, it helps the metabolism, gives you energy, and is the best thing for you. start taking glucosamine for your joints, it really helps. take multivitamins and or vitamin b complex, it's for stress and depression and vitamin c and e, antioxidants, to strengthen your immune system. drink lots of water. you need to look after you the best you can, put pictures of yourself as a child around your home and remember, thats who you are looking after, that beautiful child.

hi,i feel for you,its important that you get help, its obvious your depressed, first of all this isnt healthy for you,i have a muscle disease and i dont keep my house clean like i use to,but i do change and wash my sheets and keep my dishes washed, get outside and get some fresh air, take a walk, make a list of things you need to do first, tackle them one at a time,i know its a bit over welming but for your healths sake make changes now, youve lost interest in the things you use to take pride in,we all go thru that sometimes,if you can afford to get help cleaning then do so.also you can read some self help books to work on your self esteem. it is up to you to make things better ,if not things will get worse, take care

You definately sound stressed out and depressed.

You should go talk to somebody about your feelings and lack of want to clean your apartment....it is very unhealthy and sometimes makes you feel worse looking at the place...

I hope things turn around for you! just take things one step at a time.

Everything you write about fits with you having a depression, most probably not really succesfully treated now. After which you got isolated, so even more depressed. Have someone (a shrink?) have a look at your treatment, and adjust it if needed.

maybe it is time that you sought professional help, many health insurance companies will pay for it. I would doubt that your lack of cleaning is your problem, talk to someone that can help. Be open and be honest, especially with yourself. You can over come. I see a lot of symptoms, find some one to help you find the root cause. You deserve it.

sounds like your anti-depressants aren't working enough on you, maybe you should go back to your Dr and run more tests.

it seems to me though that one of the reasons you're depressed is because your overweight and never go out. why don't you join a gym and start slowly slowly trying to get out a bit, even if you just go out for a walk, you'll start feeling better and more confident about yourself, instead of sitting at home and feeling sorry for yourself.

I agree with the one who said your medication isn't working anymore. You need a mood elevator...maybe elavil. If you're alot overweight , maybe your dr. will give you dexadrine (if they prescribe it anymore) I used to take it to lose weight...and you'll clean the house from top to bottom..and you'll wonder why you didn't do it before ...and you'll wonder why you were ever hungry. Of course..something this effective is probably illegal these days. Sorry. Sure sounds like depression. And the less you do (on your house)...the less you want to do. Wanna end up on tv like those clutter people do? You need to clean your house before people start thinking you're psychotic. Maybe you are. If you're not..start proving it. What if you got sick and somebody HAD to come into your house? Better "gitterdun !!!" lol
