In the Old testement the bible says that a person is to take their Tithe and go and buy food and strong drink, enjoy themselves with the money and praise God through it.

It does mention no to rob god in the Old Testement however it doenst say exactly what all the money goes to.

in the new testement that has changed from a tithe or percentage of income to just "God wants you to give what you are happy with" the percentage thing is gone.

So why oh why do so many churches get obsessed with getting as much money as possible from people.

Pastors spend a lot of time bending scripture to say you should give a minium of 10% (of course gross) and anything over that God blesses.

Its the most erroneous and unbiblical practice. Give what your happy giving and thank God. Thats all he wants.

Jesus did away with the Mosaic Law and started the new convenient. So we are no longer bound by the titheing rule. But the Mosaic Law is still good based on the principals that it gives us.
Remember the account of the Widow who drooped only Two coins of very little value, Jesus said that she drooped more then all the rest that dropped large amounts and gifts. He said this woman gave of her whole means of living while the others gave of ther surplus. so as you can see Jesus whats you to give what you can but that doesn't mean 10%.

Actually every single church I have ever been too, The Pastor doesn't ask or look at how much you tithe. It's only what you can and want to give.

Church's rely on Tithe's to keep the Church going. However, I am sure that you have no idea how much the Church does for people.

At my church, You get free couseling (parenting and marriage) free Child care, all sorts of activites...

That is only a little portion of what they do.

Also, The missions they go on to Africa and with our tithe's , Children over there EAT!! Also our tithe's help a home for kid's in Foster care.

So by giving my stupid little 10 dollars every week, I help someone get couseling, a mother get away for an hour, a child eat in Africa and a Foster Child gets a safe home.

WHAT A UNPRACTICAL AND HORRIBLE BELIEF.

300 hundred dollars a week and we ***** about 10%? 30 F*ing dollars???????

Selfish selfish selfish....

What else are you going to do with the 30 dollars? Eat at McDonald's?

Yes a Pastor need that money--so a child can eat in africa, a foster child is safe, a mother can have her hair done and not be depressed...a marriage can stay together, a child can have great parents...so whats the big deal here?

The only thing we can prove for certain about tithing, as according to the Old Testament, is that the Israelites were all supposed to give a tithe of everything they possessed to the Levitical priests. The Levitical priest were a set aside tribe that had no land rights. The Levis sole purpose was to tend to the Temple and synagogues. In order to support and provide for the Levitical priest, the people had to give a tithe. The tithe went to support the priest in the Old Testament times. Tithe means 10%.

Sadly, many churches today use tithing as a means to make money. This was a practice that was necessary under the Mosaic Law, which was abolished when Jesus died. - Colossians 2:14

The Bible teaches: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Tithing was a provision of the Mosaic Law covenant to support Israel’s temple and priesthood. For Christians today, it is neither commanded nor necessary.

Tithing is hardly corrupt. Many people give regularly to many organisations; charities, churches and secular groups. It is mentioned in the OT and some church leaders use this to manipulate the congregation to give. However it is not as compulsory as they might claim.
