The Witnesses make many claims in their attempt to convert you to their faith. They profess to have the only true Christian church, to be the only true representatives of God, to have the only correct biblical teaching, and to be the only true announcers of Jehovah's coming kingdom.
If they are the only true church and are the only true voice of God's word, then what they say should prove to be true, especially in prophecy. When it comes to predicting the future, the Watchtower organization fails miserably. Following are some of the false predictions made over the years by the Watchtower organization. If you present these to a JW, he will probably say something like, "Those are taken out of context," or "They didn't claim to be the prophet of God," or "The light is getting brighter and we are understanding Bible prophecy better now," etc. Make a copy of these false prophecies, found in the appendix, and give it to them to check. They are right out of the Witnesses' literature.

Remember Deut. 18:22, "If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." If someone makes a false prophecy, and they have claimed to be a prophet of God, then they are false prophets and are not to be listened to.
Do the Witnesses claim to be the prophet of God? Yes, they do.
In 1972 the Jehovah's Witness Watchtower claimed to be the prophet of God.

A JW might say that the organization is still learning. If that is so, then how can they trust what they are taught now by the Watchtower? Will what they are being taught now change also?
A true prophet of God won't err in prophesying. Only a false prophet.

According to Jehovah's Witnesses, CHRISTENDOM is the modern day "False Prophet". Yes, that's Catholics and Protestants. All of them. You, me and every other born-again Christian who acknowledges Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We're all damned (but not to hell, because hell doesn't exist) and will not survive Armageddon (still just round the corner). Because they say there is no such thing as the immortal soul (another false teaching, they say, like the concept of the triune nature of the Godhead) at least we don't have to worry about suffering an eternity cut off from God. We will simply cease to exist.
According to the Witnesses, you have to earn your salvation by deeds - faithfully following the instructions of the Watch Tower Organisation and obeying the Governing Body. And even then, your salvation is not assured because you can only have a measure of the Holy Spirit - you cannot be an anointed, Spirit filled Christian because that privilege is restricted to a mere 144,000. Those poor, misguided people! Pray for them because they have distorted the true gospel message and do not understand the meaning of saving grace.

What is a false prophet?
Not a false predictor of events ........
Hey wait a minute there are 30 or so dates set by a certain group - you are not covering all of these dates!!
Okay back to the Question.
_____________________
What is a false prophet?
Not a false predictor of events?
okay - if you want to believe these were not end time dates set by the WTB&TS - maybe they were a little off or overzealous about a date here or there. But 30 times!? (Hey pull my finger! I heard a kid ask another)
Maybe you mean a teacher of false doctrine?
So a prophet teaches solid bible based doctrine which is unchanging and unchangable?
okay - If "New Light" or a brighter light is good enough reason to overlook false teaching - (Wheres that kid - I smell something rotten.)
Let me see how many different words can be used as prophet or for prophet......... I'm looking it up.........
A person with:
"speaks by divine inspiration" - If it is divine inspiration then there is not going to be doctrinal flip flops. Are there no flip flops? No changes and errors? No "almost" completely re-written or retooled books?
"moral insight" - thou shall not let the little one take blood or go to the authorities about abuse to get the second witness of DNA. Quite moral indeed!!
"powers of expression" - upon the beast rides the Harlot and a group such as the WTB&TS hitchs a ride too. What an expression Harlot upon the beast and then join her?!
"a predictor" - covered that one above
"a soothsayer" - same as a conman see "a predictor" above.
"the spokesperson" - How very presumptious a person or group must be to assume to take the place of Jesus.
Jesus was the last prophet.
Jesus through Him all was fulfilled and foretold. The last prophecy by Jesus was given to John and is known as "The Revelation of Christ Jesus".
Even the least of the apostles, Paul, or the great fisherman Peter, did not presume/assume "prophethood".
Warriors come out and shapen your sword.

There were times in the past when they were a bit 'over zealous' about specific dates, but how can you look at the events that we are seeing going on in the world right now and deny that this is the fulfillment of Matthew 24? How many other people are even aware of what Matthew 24 talks about? Jesus gave us a composite sign to look for, all these events are occurring right now. Matthew 24:36-39 says that no one knows the day or the hour when the end will come, but it also goes on to compare Noah's day with the last days...people took no note then and they take no note today. They are too busy with day to day life, or maybe wrapped up with their own agenda to even notice. Matthew 24:42 goes on to say, 'keep on the watch." Jehovah's Day is coming and it will come as a thief in the night. (1 Thess. 5:2)
Habakkuk 2:3 tells us to 'keep in expectation'.
Who else is encouraging people to keep on the watch and be in expectation of Jehovah's Day?

I think they have some interesting points on some subjects in regards to biblical interpretations. What is presumed as literal truth has yet to be proved as prophecy by a prophet. More likely: they are a warning of an eventuality such as natural disasters and wars. Having prior knowledge of certain events can have a change on it's outcome such as death toll. Science has also proved this to be true by understanding and studying these natural events. If Satan is a time traveling immortal entity than some of these things can be true. Many religions are afraid of making changes to how they teach religious doctrine and their interpretations. The JWs say they are a work in process. Maybe one day they'll just send us e-mails instead of tracts. When someone several years ago asked me about them I said that they have to live in the same world as we do. They're not perfect either. As for who are the chosen: I think that has yet to be seen or fully interpreted as well.

Have we made mistakes in the past?
Yeah, a bunch of 'em.
Do we cover them up? No.
Of course, we could just be like every other church and just teach tradition.
Come on, what's worse, to falsely predict when Jehovah will bring in the new system a few times or to tell everybody they're gonna get into heaven if they act right (w/o any solid basis for such a statement)?

Acts 13:6, "And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:"
Revelation 16:13, "And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet."
Revelation 19:20, "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone."
Revelation 20:10, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."
There four verses are the ONLY verses in the Bible that have the both the words "false" and "prophet".
If you would like to clarify what you mean more clearly--do you mean to ask if the JW organization is "the false prophet" of Revelations--no, I don't agree with that but I do believe they are a false prophet.

It is Christendom and her false so-called "religious" allies. They are not only blood-guilty, they falsely claim to worship God, but by their works they disown him.
They teach the traditions of men instead of what the Bible really teaches. They tolerate immorality to the extreme and promote patriotism while condoning war instead of teaching peace and love .
The leaders of Christendom give themselves fancy man-made titles which Jesus said was not to be done. They take payment for preaching and other services which again, Jesus said not to do.
Instead of telling their members about Jehovah's Kingdom and putting trust in what it will do for us, they look to human ruled governments and political leaders for the answers to mankind's problems.
Jehovah's Witnesses are certainly not perfect. Even Jesus' apostles made errors in judgment and he lovingly corrected them.
Two very important prophecies are being fulfilled now and that is Matthew 24:14 and Matthew 28:19 of which we are proud to be a part of. We will continue without letup in our preaching work until the battle of Armageddon begins and may that day come quickly.

Religions, unfortunately teach Literal interpretations of Biblical text and this was never the intent.
The biblical text is Symbolic and has always been so.
This squabble in itself is the "false Prophet" spoken of as it leads mankind Away from the Truth of God; there is no need for this false doctrine to come from One Man.
Mankind lies to himself about himself and in that, is your False Prophecy. As man denies responsibility in creation, he places "blame" on "God" for deed he alone is responsible for.
The scriptures on Prophecy were about mans self delusions of power and self truth based on mans distorted views ; this self delusion is your false Prophet as each "Church" claims Truth when not one owns it.
Have none of you learned from your own scriptures ?
The Beast/666 has always been about mans delusions and lying to themselves. Yet, man creats a horned "Devil" in place of his own wickeness to place that blame of "bad deeds" on; the "Devil", the scapegoat...
The nature of Reality is a string of never ending Probabilities and possibilites based on choices.
In other realities a warning was heeded in regards to 9/11 as man listened and took creative action; within those possibilities the twin towers still stand. 9/11 was a national-disaster that was psychicly expected.
For those of you
As physical grounded Beings many have lost touch with the True reality of consciousness and higher awareness.
Prophecy comes as a warning, to divert a negative action; prophecy was intent on making a path in the road turn away from a "possible event".
The nature of reality being Spritualy-Phychic, creation is formed and altered (perceptions and events) based on emotion and thought. What man has domne is simply "forget" their roll in creation and place it on "God" without discovering what that "God" truly is.
Upon physical death, no doubt, many will be surprised to find their expectations met, for a short time, until transition is complete and they are shown reality is endless, creation is endless and "God" is more than comprehended or more than what can be discussed in human terms alone. Many personalities, whom have had and "NDE" or Near Death Experience can attest they glimpsed "God" and saw endless Love-Integrity and compassion.
In your opening question you state some Prophecy was "taken out of context"; I would submit, almost all of it is in any religion as the points are missed entirely.
Religions place "God" on a throne to worship, yet, condemn and distort the very words within their own biblical text and all for political or personal gain, this is also False Prophecy.
Each Consciousness is connected and all things are consciouse and aware. An atom is aware of itself and ahres the common Universe and does so gladly.
As ludicrous as this sounds to some, it is so.
The GCP, or "Global Consciousness Project" was headed by Bryan Willimas at the University of New Mexico. The project meassured (globally) many different subjects for psychic patterns. On September 11th, 2001, the Twin Towers were attacked and hit by two aircraft and destroyed.
The brain waive patterns on subjects "spiked" nearly off the charts the moment the towers were hit. The subjects were Unaware and isolated, as always, when the towers were hit. They had no news of the event.
This is evidence of collective consciousness and a clue as to whom and what we are as a species.

I found it interesting that prophecy as defined in your examples, didn't match with the (revised?) definitions in the responses. I have to wonder if this has become a dictionary shell game with Greek. I don't know Greek, but words have different meanings & connotations depending on context if I'm not mistaken.
