This doesn't really belong in Military. Probably something in the entertainment section. But hey, these kind of questions are fun, so I will throw in my 2 cents.

It's also a moot point because two different laws of physics means that you can't really judge how effective each other will be. Maybe the Enterprise's phasors bounce harmlessly off of the ISD's shields. Maybe the ISD's lasers barely scratch the Enterprise's hull. It really has more to do with rule of cool than anything: whichever ship you think will win probably has more to do with which series you like better rather than any objective analysis.

Me, being a Star Wars fanatic, and only a passing Star Trek fan, tends to favor the ISD. I admit my own flaws, at least.

I would give the edge to the ISD, mainly because it is a dedicated military craft, while the Enterprise is more of a survey vessel. The ISD has been specifically designed to engage other craft, which puts the Enterprise, which was designed with more diplomatic purposes in mind.

But the whole question is moot anyway when you factor in logistics. There is only one Enterprise. There are thousands of ISDs in service. So the fact that a fight between one ISD vs the Enterprise is unclear means that if the Empire threw 4 or 5 ISDs at the Enterprise, the Enterprise would be S.O.L. The Empire has the resources of an entire galaxy at its disposal (not to mention hyperspace, which will let you zip around the Galaxy in a matter of hours.) From a logistics standpoint, the Federation wouldn't stand a chance against the Empire.

I don't think the Enterprise has the kind of shielding to protect against the massive amount of firepower supplied by a Star Destroyer. But the Enterprise is a very swift craft, she could easily out manuever a Star Destroyer. Especially when she is manned with the usual crew. It's a tough call but I am betting on a Star Destroyer victory.

I'm going to sound like a geek, but the hell, with a s/n like mine I can't resist the question. An ImpStar carries 6 squadrons of fighters which the Enterprise would have to pick off with the phaser banks. Of course if the Enterprise just happens to pick up a few squadrons of X-Wings, then it might not be problem. Enterprise gets the edge with the photon torpedos though, just overwhelm the shields of the ImpStar with them, then it's a matter of a well placed phaser or torpedo shot to the bridge(this tactic has been used in many of the Rogue Squadron books). Or even better since Enterprise is much more precise with it's weapons(face it if we learned one thing from the movies accuracy is not an Imperial strongpoint), all it really has to do is take out the shield generators(those 2 water tank looking things on the sides of the bridge) and it's good night gracie.

As much as I love Star Wars, it is sadly not even close.

The Enterprise would win.

The technology that trek uses involves warp speed, which are exponential multipliers of the speed of light.

Star Wars uses a hyper spatial jump system.

In manouvring through normal space, the enterprise is way faster.

Star Fleet sensors are more sensitive to a wider array of cosmic phenomena, and are more adaptible to changing situations (think of how they vary their shield frequencies when fighting the Borg)

It appears that they work over longer distances.

Both technologies have access to cloaking devices, but in Star Wars, it is only available for the biggest ships (see episode 5)

Star Wars ships have much more powerful weapons systems, so the edge goes to them there.

BUT the biggest advantage that Trek has are the Transporters.

There is no teleportation technology in Star Wars.

The Enterprise could merely "beam" photon torpedoes inside a Star Destroyer and that would be it right there.

Now if the Star Destroyer could manufacture a trap or ploy that disabled the Enterprise, they could overwhelm it by weight of numbers, or if a Sith Lord could somehow be rought into the fight, things might even up.

But in a straight up fight the star destroyer is going down.

(Upon closer reading of your question if you really mean "USS" Enterprise, then from clippership to aircraft carrier it won't really matter at all! I am assuming you mean from the movies and TV series)

Though the Physics are different, the Enterprise has shield technology and is far faster. Plus if turbolasers of a X-wing could cause damage, think of the damage of a photon torpedo. However if the Enterprise screwed up, the amount of firepower of the ISD would rip it to shreds.
Someone who has too much time on thier hands needs to do a software sim on this...
And a little bit of levity is a good thing..or did you forget Kilroy was here..or nose paint on aircraft or a thousand other things done.

Which ever the writer deems the winner. They are sci fi stories and you know that the writer always makes the Enterprise win one way or another. Even when they had to blow it up in the third movie it died a heroes death but there was a new one already made for them by the end of the fourth movie.

hmmm hard question to answer

well which captain are we talking about and which enterprise and who is captain of the star destroyer
the star destroyer has lots of star troopers to poilet other ships and the star destroyer has many more weapons but i am sure scottie would be able to boost the shields a little more (need more info on which ships we are taking about)

Liberty class or regular star destroyer? Either way star destroyers are about 2.5 times the size of the enterprise, so I put my money on them.

The star destroyer because Star Wars rules and Star Trek sucks.
