What is the truth about Islam? Do they really want to take over America and kill me and my family?

I hear about the similarities and differences between Muslims and Christians all the time. Some are too great to ignore, because some of the differences, as explained to me, indicate that members of Islam want to kill me and my family....that it's actually part and parcel to their religious beliefs! True? Misleading? What?

No, Islam doesn't want this. In fact Islam cannot want because it is merely a way of life. Now Muslims some of them have deviated and wish to attack Americans because of the injustices it has done to Muslims throughout the world (think Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq). Is this correct? absolutely not, it is a major sin in Islam to murder another person without right.

"From that which is known to everyone who has the slightest bit of common sense is that hijacking airplanes and kidnapping children and the like are extremely great crimes, the world over. Their evil effects are far and wide, as is the great harm and inconvenience caused to the innocent; the total effect of which none can comprehend except Allaah.

Likewise, from that which is known is that these crimes are not specific to any particular country over and above another country, nor any specific group over and above another group, rather it encompasses the whole world.

There is no doubt about the effect of these crimes; so it is obligatory upon the governments and those responsible from amongst the scholars and other than them to afford these issues great concern, and to exert themselves as much as possible in ending this evil."

Hijacking planes and ships

"Question: There are some people who hijack a plane or a ship, and do so to apply pressure upon the country to which this plane or ship is headed. It is possible they threaten to kill the passengers, and in some cases actually kill some of them, until their demands are met. So what is the ruling about such actions, especially since such actions terrify the passengers?

Response: It is upon (every) country to provide sufficient security to prevent the likes of these rebels from taking over (planes or ships). It is upon the (respective) country to provide every airline with security (whilst on their land) which is sufficient to resist any hijack attempts by the aggressors; just as they should also co-ordinate a full (passenger) inspection prior to (their) boarding. Thus, they should not permit anyone to proceed (to board) until after they have ascertained that no-one is in possession of weapons even if it be (a piece of) metal (bar or the like). In addition to this, some gangs force the aircraft to divert to another destination, so if there are (amongst the crew or passengers) anyone with sufficient physical training to overpower them, then the rebels' plans will be destroyed.

So there is no doubt that hijacking is a mistake, ignorance and falsehood. Further, it is a transgression beyond the limits causing terror to the passengers, and threatening them with that which they have no power to carry out, and Allaah knows best."

This is not the means of affecting change. Allaah says: Verily! Allâh will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allâh). (13:11 al-Quraan).
So Muslims must return back to their religion and worship one God alone if they wish to improve their situation and not blame America for their problems. Furthermore America is very supportive of Islam because it allows Muslims to invite others to Islam and spread their message. Verses from the Quraan cannot be taken out of their context (historical and otherwise). They were revealed at a certain to a Messenger and there are authentic narrations from him about their meaning. No one can declare a jihad against America because they don't like them. Especially since the message of Islam is allowed to be spread freely. Furthermore Islam never allows for killing the women and children and most importantly non-combatants. Learn about Islam from the authentic sources not from deviated Muslims or non-Muslims who hate Muslims.

The "truth" about Islam is the "truth" of any religion.

Many, many people who follow Islam are peaceful, pious, generous, gracious, warm and lovely people.

Some people use that religion to justify hatred or bigotry.

Also, like Christianity, Islam teaches that there is only one correct way, so there is the potential for bigotry and superiority there, sadly. The bible was used as a justification for decimating the First Nations peoples of North America, and a lot of other less-than-savory things like forced conversion, including the death penalty for refusing to be baptized. Christians need to understand that their own religious history is not spotless and acknowledge the harm done to others rather than white-wash the atrocities, if they expect anyone outside of Christianity to take their condemnation of others seriously.

But if you want to understand the current conflict between *some* Muslim countries and the "Western World", you'll really have to look into the economic policies of our respective countries, rather than the religious differences.

Check out the population of Indonesia when you have got a few minutes. It is almost 100% Muslim. Add that of Malaysia which is nearly all Muslim and Bangladesh much the same. The vast majority of these people are not interested in the squabble between the USA and some elements of ratbag fundamentalist Islam. However if the USA gets too paranoid and starts to bother them or starts hostile action in yet another Islamic state that is, Iran then more of them WILL get hostile.

The fact is that bin Laden is a loony. He has attracted loonies from all parts of the world to his cause, which was originally to get the US out of Saudi Arabia. He is just another version of Fred Phillips or whatever his name is from that execrable Baptist church somewhere in the USA. Except bin Laden is smarter and he has got weapons.

As for Iraq, I doubt the fighters there are primarily motivated by religion though you can't dismiss it entirely. Mostly they want the USA the hell out of their country.

I am certain declaring war on prosperous Islamic nations, and stealing the oil isn't the best way to make people want not to kill you.

I guess I'm saying that in every religion you have zealots who want to kill for their beliefs. Islam is not an exception, nor is Christianity. Both religions have crazy scripture in their beltstraps, but the vast majority of people in the religions look to the light of whomever their God is in scriptures -- not to the darkness of hate.

The Islamic faith basically advocates spreading the faith through conquering and says people who don't adopt the faith should be killed. No religion that advocates blind faith can be compatible with tolerance.
