Objectifying a woman and speaking about her 'looks' ....yes....is disrespectful. Would you say what you said if she were standing right next to you and could hear what you said?
The proper 'etiquette' thing to do... would be to approach the girl in a respectful way, and tell her that you think she looks very beautiful.
Guys do this type of thing, (objectifying women), all time and it has just become a common place practice but really shouldn't be.
Here is why: What if your friend went to this girl and repeated what you said? She may become offended that you would make comments about her body to someone and would respond with, "What gives you the right to talk about me?" and....... would you repeat it to her husband?
She may even go further than that and complain to someone who would take such comments seriously enough to take legal action.

The likelyhood of this happening are pretty slim, right? Not really. This is the stuff that sexual harrassment lawsuits are made of. Women are becoming more assertive about enforcing the law when it comes to their rights being violated.
Tred lightly with words. It is the thing that gets us in trouble the most.

Well, a long time ago, it was considered rude for a man to make *any* comment on a woman in front of another man. The comment that you describe is rude, because it could be overheard by others, and there was a good chance the girl could hear it, too, and be embarrassed by it. For some reason, it would be worse if they were standing around gawking at her, instead of just commenting to each other if they were both on a treadmill, etc. At least it was positive. :-/

Yes. For one, you are both obviously talking 'about' someone else in their presence and within their hearing range. Secondly, it doesn't matter what was said, the person you talk about feels vulnerable, especially as she is being objectified and probably feels like a piece of meat.

Yes, as you describe it it sounds like they were being pretty obvious, talking AND staring at the same time.... which makes it obvious for the girl that she's the topic of their conversation (and they aren't exactly talking about her hairstyle or clothing, or how smart she looks, etc.). So I would feel uncomfortable if I were this girl.

They are both questioning their own sexual preference, but because they were raised to be homophobic they feel they always have to make comments about women to each other.
Seriously, two guys at the gym............, let them pretend they are hot for the chica caliente...

it isnt really a gesture it's a disrespectful conversation. If they were grabbing there crotch and making pelvic thrust movements that would be a disrespectful gesture.

I don't think it is. But then I'm quite different from most girls.

I think it is complimentary and as long as the guys don't go hounding her or drooling over her and being a nuisance then, no - it's not disrespectful.

If the comments are quietly said between them and there is no overt ogling its OK.
Staring, loudly commenting on her physical attributes, crotch grabbing and drooling are all in poor taste.
Did I really have to say that?
