Your mom's condition is probably anemia, rather than actual blood loss. Anemia is a condition where there are not enough red blood cells. Anemia is a symptom of all sorts of things, the doctors will probably have to run a few tests to see whats causing it. The most common cause in middle-aged women is simply not enough iron in the diet - that's really easy to fix. Some of the other causes can be a little harder to solve. One good thing: since she has had these symptoms for three years, that more or less rules out cancer as a possible cause.

The question would be what is making her loose blood, thereby making her anemic. She needs to see a doctor to evaluate this and possibly prevent her needing another transfusion again.
