No, not anymore than past generations have to explain to us why they "exploited" farm animals.

The next generation will discover new resources that we can't fathom today.

Take fewer guilt trips to conserve the environment!

It's interesting because the answer has changed. Up until about 1978 the answer would have been "Of course". There was enough to go around, so all the problems were problems of distribution. Around the end of '78 the earth's population exceeded the supply of food and other resources. It was no longer a matter of distributing things fairly. There just was no longer enough to go around, and people would be starving no matter what you did. That's led to people trying to hang onto more than they really need, or fighting with other people to try to get theirs. So with that going on with the people who are already alive, I doubt that there is much concern for the unborn. I don't think people can be made to change on this. As the population continues to grow it will get worse. Who's top dog among the nations will probably change many times in your lifetime. We should be focusing on renewable resources, and inventing new ones, but we aren't, and we probably won't until every last scrap of the non renewable resources are gone, or we're all dead (or both). It comes down to two things: People are lazy, and selfish.

Yes we need to keep planning for future generations and making it a better world for them to come into. I just met my new granddaughter over the weekend and I would not like to think you believe she should not exist.

Yes, I think so. We should take care of our planet no matter what. Scientists are exploring outer space so that if anything happens to the planet earth, we can live on other planets. I completely disagree with that. Everything happens for a reason, and if God decides to end the world, I'm not going to go to another planet to try and survive. I'm going exactly where God wants me to.

The world oil reserves will be depleted within the next 40 years. We need to find alternate fuel sources so that our children and their children will have electricity, heat and fuel for their vehicles.

No, the breeding societies are churning out humans faster than the earth can support them. So war, famine, and disease will doom future generations no matter what we now.
