Sciatica is not always caused by pressure on the disc. Sciatica is a descriptive term and it may be caused by muscle problems (piriformis syndrome) or from sacroiliac joint problems as well as disc pressure. All of these may be aggravated by sitting for extended periods.

Posture is important. There are some supports you can use to help with your seating. Also, a nice product called posture curve is a posture exerciser used behind the back while sitting.

If seat or posture modification does not help, you should see a doctor that can differentially diagnose the cause for a more specific approach.

Yes, sciatica is usually caused by a herniated disc pushing on the nerve also any cause of irritation or inflammation of this nerve can reproduce the symptoms of sciatica.
Uaually we sit at our desks with bad posture even when we try to remember. The have many ergonomic chairs to use in the office. Also try a chiropracter, they can tell you if it is definitely sciatica or not.

I had a neurologist tell me just the other day, they do not know why the sciatic nerve gets inflammed. It is not in a place where posture would make any difference, and it is not in a place where injury is really a possibility.....but hundreds of thousands of people annually suffer with this painful problem. All I can suggest is that when you get a flare up, immediately ask your doctor for a few days treatment of dexamethasone in order to control the inflammation and minimize the pain.

Sciatica is a product of a pinched nerve, from not exercising and sitting in one position too long. But if you take long walks and build up muscle tone, this is less likely to happen.

Once you do get it, regular deep tissue massages will help smooth the muscles, but you do need to exercise, so walk it off while you can.

Experience.
