Atheist says it all. When you let others dictate the definition of terms you live by, you're on the back foot.

Well you can't call yourselves atheists if you are here, I mean why would you be in R & S if you were an atheist. Right, I think you are a Seeker, the question is would you accept the truth if you found it. The bible says Jesus is the way, the truth, and the Life, book of John 14:6. Jesus says he is the only way to heaven, He died on the cross for you at calvery, a perfect man and a perfect sacrifice, His love for you has no bounds or no conditons, The Bible says we are all sinners, and that the wages of sin is death, Romans chapter 6:23, so if die not saved hell is where we are headed, right along with hitler, stalin and of course the old serpent himself. I will take the Bible, it is the Truth. I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit in my heart. I know he is real, you can have that same feeling, you can know the creator personally, it is a free gift of grace from Jesus, if you are feeling a conviction right now you can be saved, is your heart racing, are you sweating, can't sit still, that is the Holy Spirit convicting you, just say this simple prayer, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

There are already many names. Most of them negative. A) Godless infidels B) Nihilists C) Embracers of evil D) Petulant miscreants E) Naive intellectuals F) misguided fools G) deniers of truth H) harborers of demons I) egocentric narcissisists----the list is endless. Reasoner is the new "N" word.

While not applicable to all atheists... perhaps "rationalist" for yourself?
Edit: Although I agree with the people above that say that atheists don't define themselves by their lack of belief in a higher being, that doesn't preclude the labeling of such belief.

I don't see why so many atheists have a problem with this label. By showing it bothers them, they empower those who hate or don't understand us. What's next, de-labeling baseball or dogs?
Leave it alone, already, people. I'd rather be called an "atheist" than to be called what many believers call us behind closed doors. This is a non-issue.

Atheist works just fine for me.
This was tried some years ago - they called themselves 'brights' but it didn't really catch on.
If we tried to call ourselves anything else it would only give the theists something else to tell lies about.
Why help them?

'Philosophical naturalist' is more descriptive of what most atheists in the west actually are. Atheism is merely the rejection of gods, but not necessarily the supernatural in general, whereas naturalism is the position that 'what you see is what you get'.

Atheists shouldn't have to call themselves anything. I don't need to be labeled just because I don't believe in something that isn't real.
