Obviously there is a process of discernment here. As far as the mechanical side of becoming a missionary: In my church one applies to the missionary agency. Usually one goes on a short-term mission (less than a month), maybe more than one. Then one can apply for a long-term mission. Minimum commitment is two years. The missionary needs to do fund-raising to support his or her mission.

You can be a missionary anywhere. You don't necessarily have to go to another country to be a missionary. You must have a loving and caring heart, open arms to all the "heathens" as you put it, (which btw, if you are going to be a missionary you can't call people heathens), and a strong relationship with God, because people are going to test you. The best thing you can do is talk to someone in a leadership position at your place of worship and find out more information than what we can tell you here. If Missionary work is truly your calling then your place of worship will be able to help you get set up as a Missionary. From one missionary to another, good luck!

One of the first questions, Where would you prefer to go?

There are several options available.
Check with the domination you are connected with.
There are also non-domination groups.

In some parts of the world kids can go. Other parts. for various reasons, are not allowed.

Contact your local church, they should have a missionary/outreach program.

But you need not go to other countries. It starts by walking across the street. As you build confidence in the work, you can branch out and travel more.

Well first thing has God called you to be that. Second when he does he will lay a place on your heart as well. Third if after God has done this speak to your church. There is many Mission boards that help. You will have to get churches to support you. Not just one but many.

If you have a local church, talk to your pastor. If not, go to a church and ask to talk to someone about how to get into missionary work. Someone will direct you on how to go about it.

Fast and Pray and seek his face for direction and then ask your Pastor for direction. Be willing to submit to his leadership and encouragement and discernment.
