Obviously someone who is honestly and openly asking questions and looking for the truth.

Most likely I would think that it was someone who maybe grew up in a Christain church, never really gave their life, then chose to become an athiest due to some offense at the church, or some other influence the other way. They eventually figured out that it couldn't be true, so they sought the truth and found God for real this time. This is a pretty common story actually. They really didn't understand Christianity the first time around, they never had a real encounter with God.

Sounds to me like they were never truly atheist. Probably had an incident which caused them to lose faith. In their hearts they probably never lost touch with the God they loved, and their stint at atheism was a break from Christianity, nothing more. A period of soul searching.

A true atheist understands the contradictions and lies and lack of reasonable proof to be overwhelming evidence of no supreme being. Once this step has been made, it is extremely rare to go back.

Lots of people just follow a religion because their parents or friends do. When you grow up, you challenge those beliefs. If you were only following what other people told you, then it wasn't like you were true Christian in the first place. Later, when you sort things out, you might find that Christianity was right after all. Yay!!

Sounds like 'confusion' to me. Satan is the Father of confusion. He rejoices in the fact that God's children flip flop around, and do not take a stand. It makes his ploy to control them so much easier. The person that you speak of had the mind to come to their senses. We all fall short and sin. If you wander from God, it is possible to get back in sync with him. Pray to God, and sincerely repent, turning away from evil, and God will welcome you with open arms.

Just a normal confused human being.
Not much different to anyone else.

I think this person made a wise choice in coming back to Christ......for good.

In fact, a true Christian cannot lose their salvation so......I'll bet that they never truly got saved the first time around. Or they did and just drifted for a time.

Either way......it's good to have them back.

I think the person is HUMAN, imperfect, and a sinner like the rest of us.

Sooner or later, everyone comes to a knowledge of the truth.

Hopefully - not too late!
