1-2 oz a week?! He's not going to be clean for a urine test for a solid month or more after he completely quits. So it depends on when he's getting tested, but if it's anytime soon, he has zero chance of passing. If he over-dilutes his urine, they'll catch on to that as well, and they may subject him to a more hi-tech urine test or even a hair test, which can go back 90+ days.

I'm sure he needs his job, but when he's smoking ounces a week, he's an official pothead, and being an official pothead and having a job don't always go together so well.

I think he is lucky the boss is allowing him a second test, in my company he would have been fired when the initial result came in. If I were him I would remain drug free for as long as necessary to pass the second test. I have heard everything form 3 to 11 days all the way to thirty days as the time needed to clear the system. If the boss is sympathetic to the Arthritis and willing, I'd ask that the testing be put off for one month and stay away from pot until then and he will probably pass it.

he knew the rules of the job and chose to smoke pot anyway. Now he is likely going to have to face the consequences of that choice. Hope the pot was worth him losing his job, and likely having a very difficult time finding another.

I'm sorry, no sympathy for him. Quit doing the drugs and realize that a job is more important.
