The term "God Fearing" is used a lot by religious people. Why would someone fear something that is omnipotent and looking out for your best interest? Why not say "God Trusting" or something like that?

God is a loving God but he is also a jealous God. He wants you to fear him, so that when we go to do wrong we will think twice before sinning. He wants us to always do right. Therefore we should fear his disappointment.
The flood happened because of mans sins. HE could only find eight people who walked with God and loved God. Everyone else was sinning big time...
I'd rather be on God's good side looking out then on the outside looking in.

One person used the example of Psalm 111:10 ~ and it was a great example of the way one is asked to fear God. The original word for fear used there was 'yir'ah' which means a (moral) reverence... so we reverence God, not fear him in the literal sense. Reverence is worship, respect, admire, to venerate ~ to be in amazement! Hope this brief answer help some. Thanx, God bless

You are correct. The religious right believes god is vengeful and fear him as a master, hence "God fearing". Today, the new, younger generation see him as a kind and loving god, not to be feared.

God fearing means to have utter respect for God and His laws. A God fearing man is usually seen as a good person because he would act as he believes, God would want him to act.

It's a term that can be found in scripture, and the more accurate translation reads "respect" instead of "fear". One only needs to fear God if he does not know God. In the Bible he often tells his people to "fear not".

When u r in relationship with GOD, u know HIS power, u know HIS might and the requirements to live holy and pleasing in HIS sight (or at least try)! A form of fear...is RESPECT OF 1'S AUTHORITY! When u know sum1 has all power and is in control...u try not 2 disobey or disrespect the covenant that has been made! It is not spooky...fear-it is simply saying..I really dont wanna make u made bc He is loving but HE chasens those that HE loves

"Fear" is used in this sense to mean "deep respect", not to run and hide whenever God comes around. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Psalm 111:10). It's just a translation issue from the Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek or Aramaic (New Testament).

I fear God because he is a just God. If you turn on Him, He has the ability to punish. Do you want God to have a reason to turn on you? I would hope the thought of that would instill some fear.
More importantly though, He is a loving God who gave His Son to die for our sins. Believe that Christ paid for your sins and you will not experience His wrath on judgement day.
