i've had this since i was 12 and am now 20 ... and as i get older , it just gets worse and worse.

I have booked an appointment with a psychiatrist but i honestly do not think they will be able to help me in the slightest .

Do you know of anyone who has overcome this ?

i have become housebound agoraphobic because of the body dysmorphic disorder .

I won't take medication though , its not worth the side affects , i would rather work through it without drugs . thanks for the suggestions though :)

I also have BDD and have seen a psychiatrist for it and it has helped with meds and of course therapy. The thing you have to understand always is that there is nothing wrong with you. It's all in the head..

I agree with not dismissing the psychiatrist so soon. If you go in with an open mind and an attitude that you want a change, then you'll be more receptive to whatever treatments that they provide. Also its a good idea to find websites for people with BDD. They are bound to have some sucess stories and let you know that you arent alone with your issue.

Try not to dismiss the psychiatrist before you see them.
I don't know anyone who has it, but therapy might be a good idea.

I have heard that some medications can help people deal with these feelings. There's a pretty good chance it will work for you.
