My 2.5 year old go into ex-lax yesterday while the babysitter was here. After process of elimination I determined she ate about 6 pieces. Called poison control and they said she might have nausea and vomitting, but deffinently diarrhea. Well she was fine when we put her to bed, then this morning she woke up and in the middle of the night without waking up she has diarrhea all over herself, her bed and in her hair. It was so gross.
question is anyone know how long she will have the diarrhea?

Oh BTW the babysitter was let go, because she was obviously not watching the child, as the child had to get through a child lock that would have taken her a long time to get through. The sitter was on the phone to boyfriend.

Did you all not read that I did call poison control and I did have a call in to her pediatrician. Instead of berating me about taking her to the dr, try being human and answering the question next time.

I would put the child in pull ups for today- she may have cramps today from the ex-lax trying to work on an empty colon. She will still have some diarreah too. But it shouldnt last too long -the laxative will only work for so many hours ( I think its 24 hours for laxatives) no matter how many pieces she took (since she ate them all at the same time they will all only work for while). Give her lots of liquids- jello, watermelon, grapes, Pedialyte might be good for her. If she still have diarreah tomorrow I would call pediatrician.

well 1-2 ex-lax normally takes 6-12 hours for it to take effect, so she's probably going to have it for the next 3 days. Thats terrible that had to happen. I try to keep all of our medicines and things out of reach, and up on a highshelf or something.

i think i would try giving her some liquid tylenol to help with the stomach cramps as well. and plenty of pedialite to keep her from getting dehydrated. you might also want to call your pediatrician and tell them the situation and see if there is some medicine like the suppositories that they prescribe for babies and toddlers for excessive diarrhea and or vomiting. and if that would help in this situation. good luck and best wishes. also only give her clear liquids for today or the more you try to give her the longer this will last.

Not sure how long it will last but keep a close eye on her fluid intake. You can dehydrate from diarrhea just like vomiting. If I was you I would go to the pharmacy and ask if immodium is safe to give a toddler and in what dosage.

just give her more water than usual to flush this out . No sweet stuff for now until it's out, we don't want anything to ferment inside. In such a small body, it should be out already. On another note, you should buy some PROBIOTICS and give some to her, it will help her digestion. I gave some to my baby boy and no more problems !

The stuff just has to run its course. It'll probably lessen up in 12 hours, be completely gone in 24. Just keep a watchful eye on her and make sure she doesn't get dehydrated.

For adults an overdose would usually last a day, maybe more for a smaller weight. I wouldn't say more than a couple of days. I would go and get her some pedialyte and make sure you have vasiline or diaper rash cream handy, poor baby it will be painful.
