How long is a piece of string.
The way you are being treated by the home office is typical of the way its treats all people. People can stay on IDL for 10 years never really knowing when or if they are going to be sent back.
The whole system is a shambolic mess and an embarrassment to the country. It allows corrupt Genocide perpetrators to pay to have their cases dealt with quickly and with a positive result where as a victim of barbaric torture will have to wait years for an answer which will usually be a resounding no.
As you have not even explained anything about your case it is hard to build a picture of what is going on. But if you have a genuine case then I feel for you and the only advice that I can offer is to get publicity from your local parer and news, and 2keep on at your local MP.

In 1995 (under the Conservatives) there was an amnesty for people that claimed asylum more than ten years before and had never had a decision - not after an appeal, just an initial decision. People can wait years and years for a simple piece of paper. However, it is getting better.

It largely depends on the nature of your application. Those under the 14-year long residence rule are a low priority, and take longest. I can only suggest, if you are confident of the outcome of your case, you keep on with the MP.

Good luck.

Have you have applied before your visa expires?

If so you probably wont be considered until the visa is almost at an end because it will be at that point applicants will be considered.....not before
