Why am I dreaming of people I don't know or see anymore, me levitating, and just recently, a mushroom cloud after a nuclear blast?
What to make it even more strange is that people actually visited ground zero. After filling it with water, people start sitting in the water, waist high, and then start sinking into the lake's mud walls..
Could someone help me on what I should make of this?

I'm having a hard time making out the story line here, is this one dream, or multiple dreams? Can you offer a little more description of the story line? My first thought on this imagery has to do with that it depends on how you parted ways with these people, why don't you see or associate with them anymore? You're reviewing material of an emotional nature...

It sounds like to me that you are thinking about your own mortality. Worried about the future?
The levitating part is interesting. If you have control of the levitation, this signifies you "rising above the rest" not in a social status but rather a leadership role. If the levitation is not by your choice, than it could signify that someone is putting you incharge of something that you are not ready for.
Your mind could be asking you " do you have what it takes to survive?" Not so much the "end of the world" but a difficult situation.
