For a while now, I've felt very little confidence when speaking on the phone. Not so much when people call me, but when I call other people. I'm also not that confident when speaking to some people face to face. Any ideas on what I can do? I've seen loads of things that claim to help or even solve the problem but don't know which one to go for.

Supplements would be good, but not sure if they work for confidence levels, althought some claim to. Hypnotherapy comes across as being expensive.

Prepare the key points you want to say in advance. Say them out loud and then write them down.

If you get flustered during the call you can refer to your notes and read the point out. As you have already practised speaking it out loud, it will sound natural and fine. You are on the phone. Nobody can see that you have notes.

Relax and just go for it. Good luck

Well if this is for work, think about possible questions that may arise and think about what you can say. Practice by starting conversations with family memembers and then by talking to strangers at work or at school. This might not be a psychological problems. It sounds like you are just not that good at communicating or shy. Keep talking, speak out and don't let this take control of you.

I find knowingly know about the speed I speak a good option for boosting your telephone manner. Slowing down your speech on the telephone makes for a clearer conversation, and even although you p**s the person off on the other end, because of you change in behaviour, you know that you conversed properly and there is never a complaint when you do things properly.

You might observe someone else who has a good speaking style and try to mimic them. I practice speaking slower than I normally would and keeping my voice at a more even tone rather than inflecting my sentences (which makes them sound like questions instead of statements). To denote confidence, try to make your sentences sound like statements rather than letting them trail off. If people are constantly asking you to speak up, try speaking louder. Good luck!

Keep a small mirror by the phone.
When you are speaking look in the mirror and smile.
Also stand up when you're on the phone. It gives you a feeling of authority.

Go on, give it a try.

Try & make calls on impulse, when you are in a good & confident mood. If you plan ahead, theres room for fear & doubt to creep in.
