Our modern society is very sensitive to seemingly small changes. Here's just one example.

Much agricultural land in Bangladesh is less than 100 cm above sea level. And the sea doesn't even have to get that high. A smaller rise and a storm will flood the land with sea water ruining it. A lot of people in Bangladesh are going to be very hungry.

Basically we're not hunter gatherers who can just migrate.

Sea levels are not falling. Mr Jellos statement is based on one mark on a wall, which may or may not be real. Here's proof, massive amounts of data measured by scientists:

"Historical records show that sea level in San Francisco Bay has risen 18-20 cm (7 inches) over the past 150 years. "

"Here, we extend the reconstruction of global mean sea level back to 1870 and find a sea-level rise from January 1870 to December 2004 of 195 mm, a 20th century rate of sea-level rise of 1.7 ± 0.3 mm yr−1 and a significant acceleration of sea-level rise of 0.013 ± 0.006 mm yr−2."

This is the best data I've found, satellite data:

Honestly, which of these sources do you find more credible? One mark on a wall, or scientifically measured data with many data points? Note that the various sources I've listed have pretty similar results, too.

The predictions I've seen range from the 25-50 cm level to
1-200 meters. I've seen deniers arguing that melting all the ice will actually cause the sea levels to drop. Personally, I expect a little over 60 feet, because that's what has occurred in the past. It could be more, because some of the ice that's melting hasn't melted all the way since the continents formed. I don't see how it could possibly be less. The arguments for that remind me of phlogiston and ether theories.

well lets look at this in feet some claim that it will rise lets say 4-6 feet which doenst sound alot. but if you think of a place like NJ NY new orleans where we are just about sea level a 4 fot raise would make the ocean come inland a many miles.

People are increasingly living along the coast. A look at what happened in New Orleans in 2005 shows what could happen.

Overall, it's probably no big deal, but shorefront property is *expensive* and the owners have a great deal of political clout.

A rise in sea level even something as seemingly insignificant as 10 cm makes a huge difference. The cause is seen in tide levels ( High tide / low tide ). 10 cm increase is estimated to reduce livable coastal property by millions of acres.

Current sea levels are now 30cm BELOW recorded levels from the early 1800's.

Scientist can claim anything they want. It takes proof to be right about what they say. Note that they will only provide research papers as proof. Not hard math.
