I can't explain it better than this:
"What was it that Adam ate that he wasn't supposed to eat? It wasn't just an apple. It was the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The subtle message? 'Get smart and I'll f*** you over' sayeth the Lord. God is the smartest, and he doesn't want any Competition. Is this not an absolutely anti-intellectual religion?"

They "saw" that "they were good for food" Now Fundamentalists will tell that this merely means "nutrition" like vitamins and minerals because everything in the Bible is literal to them. This is a spirit story which takes place in the astral plane or dream world. That is where you get magic trees and talking snakes. It is quite real. They ate the fruit because it would "make them wise". Now literal apples can't do that. Gifts of food and drink in the dream world are spiritual power in some form. The dragon said "go ahead and eat it you'll get wise" Adam and Eve chose power. They chose the dragon god as their god. See? Satan tempted them to play with a loaded gun. They were too primiitve at the time to be magical people. It is a story of the mind and its powers. The trees HAD to be there. They exist.

There was nothing special about the tree. It is a tree of knowledge of Good and Evil because when they did not at from it they only had knowledge of good because they were living in accordance to God' will. Once they ate from it they had done something outside of God's will and no knew evil, because all evil means is not from God. Before they fell they had no knowledge of the difference between Good and Evil and once they sinned they realized what th difference was.

i believe that it is not yet the time to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge... still premature for them to eat this fruit.. I believe that God will give them a chance to eat of this fruit in His time, when they had already learned His teachings.
Like the newly born baby. Give them solid food after they are born... they will choke to death if you do not give them first aid. but of course, I am talking spiritually with regards to Adam and Eve. God always has a higher purpose we humans cannot understand...
There is no such thing as tree of gluttony and etc. Adam and Eve knew no sin before they ate the fruit..

cause you are making up the other trees. None other is even mentioned of in the Garden of Eden thats why. And for the original sin? Sex. Even though it is God created men and woman different to enjoy this with each other Sex itself is considered sinful and in birth we are born through sin. There is no other trees to consider at the time of creation. The other sins come much later after hundreds of years when God finally realizes how imperfect we as human beings have depraved ourselfs so then he started to make a list of the worst sins that are offensive to Gods rightous standards of human behavior. The tree of knowledge is just symbolic for that time of creation of the world and Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. For the wonder of this very 1st existance it must have been beautiful with all lush and warm colors and the "wild" animals who were like their pets and sleep snuggled with them in the peaceful world of the Garden of Eden.

I don't know why he had to make a tree and then tell adam/eve not to eat from it in the first place. It's as though he wanted them to be tempted so he could have a reason to punish them. Why didn't he leave well enough alone? Everything was going just fine. Was it Boredom on Gods part? Games? Weird!

The tree of life was there, but the others probably weren't. This shows a tactical error on the part of the serpent, he should have had them eat of the tree of life and then of knowledge. This is in light that god kicked them out so that they couldn't eat of the tree of life.
Interestingly, they were apparently running around the garden naked. This was fine until they knew that nakedness was evil and tried to cloth themselves. So god knew that they were unknowingly doing evil but was fine with it until they knew it was evil. This has all sorts of implications!

The tree was, in effect, symbolic of the boundary—the line of demarcation—or the limit of man’s proper domain. It was right and proper, yes, essential, that God inform Adam of that boundary. For a perfect man to eat of that tree would require the deliberate assent of his will. It would indicate the determination made beforehand that he would withdraw himself from subjection to God’s rulership, to go out on his own, doing what was “good” or “bad” according to his own decisions.

maybe it was because they were not ready/able to accept all that the tree of knowledge had to offer. they hadn't experienced enough of life to know what to do with the knowledge.
as for those other "trees" that you mentioned...i don't think they existed in the "garden of eden", and adam & eve did not experience them till they fell from the grace of God.
