I see some things these 2 philosophies have in common. Has anyone else picked up on this?

Both date from the 1800's. The writings of their founding fathers are in english, so no worrying about translating ancient languages. Both groups leaders have mad OUTLANDISH statements about various topics. Both groups do make a big deal out of going door to door. Both deny the trinity. Both demote jesus to a lesser position. Both claim the Bible has been incorrectly translated. The JW's have the watchtower to interpret the bible. The LDS have the book or mormon. Both say you have to have more than just faith in christ to be acceptable to God....the list goes on.

PUGWASHJW:
1. Both groups use the bible PLUS something, either watchtower or book of mormon.
2. The NWT is a distortion of God's word just like the Book of Mormon. The NWT is perhaps the more insidious of the two, however.
3. Both were founded by rather dubious prophets. The LDS seem to have stayed away from making prophecy a large part of their doctrine. Also, while CT Russell was not involved in Masonic ritual as Smith was, he did make statements favoring Freemasonry.
4. Both groups, through their distortion of God's word, find themselves worshipping a false jesus.
5. Both groups want desperately to be seen as "Christian", when their doctrines are anything but christian.

Also, both movements have their roots in ideas that sprang form the "burned-over" district of western new york state in the early 1800's. Millerites, Adventists, and all manner of "new" biblical revelation resulted from this area of the country which was known as an area of "free thought" at the time. Interestingly, a line of descent can be traced from the Millerites of the 1800's to the branch davidians of waco, texas fame.

Dizneyland fan: I can show you quotes from Joeseph Smith, Brigham Young, and other past LDS presidents disparaging both Christians and the bible.

Oh, it seems that the early LDS founders also liked making prophetic pronouncements. It seems Jesus was to return to Missourri, of all places.

Moises Frias: For better or worse, you simply must face the fact that you do not worship the jesus of the bible, but the Jesus of Brooklyn or bethel or whatever. The NWT Jesus is not the Biblical Jesus. You can deny it all day long, and guess what? They still aren't the same.

They both claim to honor the Lord Jesus and yet they both demean the person of Jesus by reducing His stature to being the equivalent of Satan.
JW's claim that Jesus is the arch-angel Michael, ie - a most powerful angel just like Satan.
Mormons say that Jesus and Satan are "spirit brothers" and that God the Father chose to implement his plan of salvation through Jesus rather than Satan.
It's like the religion of Islam that claims to honor Jesus but reduces his status to that of a prophet of God and not God's eternal Son who is the Word that was with God and IS God from the beginning.
All 3 religions are motivated by the spirit of the anti-Christ which seeks to get people to follow a different or replacement Christ.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Why do you post statements that are based on your opinion and not fact?
The Book of Mormon is not a distortion. It is a separate book of scripture and is a 2nd Testament of Christ. It doesn't replace the Bible.
We are never "worshiping a false Jesus" and we are definitely Christian! If you believe in Christ, you are a Christian!
Except for the fact that JWs and Mormons are both Christian religions and have missionaries, I'm not certain there are any other similarities.
To the person above that says we only send out 19 year old young men as missionaries, you missed the 21 year old young women and retired couples!

Absolutly nothing, Give me a KJV bible and I will show you exactly the same we believe, God´s kingdom in earth after Armageddon and this planet change it into a paradise under Jesus rulership and perfect humans seeds of Adam and Eve living eternally in this planet as the original purpose of God in genesis 1:27-28, nobody else believe that, including LDS, Christianity preach that this planet will explote or will be destroy it, something against of what the bible says.
Everytime I ask the same Qs if is false to Unsilenced lamb she simply run away cause she know is true but won´t admit that the only organization that is preaching that are Jehovah´s witnesses.
Yeah but I can prove you that Jesus will transform this planet in a paradise as Jehovah´s witnesses preach with a KJV or NASB or NIV also, give any bible and we will prove the same.
all the people talk and talk but when has to prove that if is false that message just run away that is why unsilenced lamb block me and the rest of the gang, a simple dominican guy can make a lot of super american people run away ha ha ha.

They both believe in sharing their faith, though Jay Dubs seem to be a bit more... persistent.
They both believe in God, and Jesus... and are therefore in the category of "Christian"
They both think that they are correct.
Those are the main similarities I see.
Have fun with all the people who can't think of anything to say besides "They're both wrong" =)

From the horses mouth;
J.W's preach using the Bible.
Mormons use the Book of Mormon, a separate publication.
Both groups preach door to door/ house to house. An example by Jesus.
Acts 5;42 and 20;20
J.W's use Almighty God's personal name [ YHWH / YaHWeH / Jehovah ] Exodus 6;3...
(Jeremiah 51:57) And I will make her princes and her wise ones, her governors and her deputy rulers and her mighty men drunk, and they must sleep an indefinitely lasting sleep, from which they will not wake up,” is the utterance of the King, whose name is Jehovah of armies.
Mormons do not.
J.W's do not use icons or paintings of any sort in their Kingdom Halls.
Mormons do..view their temple in Salt Lake City.
ALL baptised J.W's are involved in the door to door work, in compliance with;
(Psalm 68:11) Jehovah himself gives the saying; The women telling the good news are a large army.
J,W's preach, obeying Mathew 28; 19,20 and what they preach is the Kingdom, Matthew 6; 9,10 [ The Lord's Prayer].And they do this in compliance with Matthew 24;14.
Mormons [ and I hope I am correct here] put all effort in house blessing. And their 'preaching' is carried out by ONLY young men as missionaries.
J.W's consider that all we need to know is in the Bible, completed two thousand years ago, finishing with Revelation by John.
Mormons believe that further information was given via gold tablets to the founder, Joseph Smith.
J.W's consider this to denigrate what Jesus taught. Being the son of God.

Both deny the deity of Jesus Christ and his bodily resurrection. I think that both believe one is saved by his works, rather than by the grace of God, as the Bible teaches.

JW's say Jesus was a created angel. Morons say that Jesus was the brother of the devil and that would also mean that Jesus is an angel.
For to which of the angels did He ever say:
“ You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You”? Heb. 1:5

One of the biggest problems both have is that they believe faith in Jesus AND good works will earn your way to Heaven. But salvation is not earned, it is a gift from God through faith alone in Christ. By saying you must believe in Jesus AND do good works diminishes Christ's death on the cross. A person should do good works BECAUSE of salvation not as a means of receiving it.
