cat growls?

Question

jus recently my male cat has started to growl and hiss at me. he tried to climb out of the window the other day n i picked him up and he really growled. also i was stroking him and instead of purring he had a low growl....any ideas as to why..he is also growling at my younger cat...

he is neutered and is just over 2

is he neutered? Tom cats (unaltered) will often smell the spray of other toms from outside or they smell female cats in heat and then their hormones go into overdrive. They can become aggressive even with their owners. Have your cat neutered and this will solve many of the problems that you are having. Your cat will no longer want to breed with the females or fight (for breeding rights) with the males. Mine do not go outside and having them altered also reduces their desire to roam. Neutering stops almost all of the tom cat aggression. If your cat is neutered and he is still growling at you and the other cat and has never done this before then you should take him to the vet to make sure he is not ill. Sick animals tend to get grumpy even with people they love. Good luck to you and kitty!

sounds like to me that this is behavioral related. has something recently changed in your kitties life? have you did something small like move a food bowl or a litterbox? cats are wonderful but peculiar too. sometimes you can or another cat can do something to really upset a cat and the cats will retaliate by bad behavior.

is he neutered? if no then he wants to go out and look for female cats

could be jealousy, or if he hasnt been done if u no what i mean, then he could recently have cat sex. during that time they get a bit touchy
