Is masturbation sinful? I tried it several times and I found it very pleasurable and euphoric. It helped me go through bouts of depression since I have low self-esteem.

It's healthy, seriously. I would have a serious question mark on you if you'd swear to me that you are not doing it. As long as you don't have a partner it's fine (sometimes it's fine even when you do have a partner) and it helps girls know themselfs better. I know I'll get a lot of thumb downs for this, but in what I do I meet a lot of people who ask me for advice and tell me their life experiences, and this is the conclusion I got to - and it is what I learn in university as well

it is the will of the flesh. but you have to be careful. If you do it solely for the release of your depression and low self esteem, you will find that you will start prefering it to having sex with a woman. what I mean by this is, masturbation requires no output from you to another. you don't have to listen to the other person, you'll find that you will start withdrawing from intimate encounters because it requires more than you are willing to give. Instead of masturbating as a relaese of your depression and low self esteem I would recommend you start getting out more, meet more people become active and allow you r self esteem to build up. you will find that your depression will lessen more and more.. and no, masturbation is not a sin. if you start fantasizing about others during it though, you are lusting after others which is a asin.

raluca, I hope you find that everythiing that gives you pleasure physically is not sinful... please tell me you were kidding.

Masturbation can be helpful to some, but for others like myself it only fuels the fire of a sexual addiction. I used to think that it helped to suppress my urges but it only made me want more of the feeling. Eventually I was spending all my money in strip clubs and on prostitutes. I was also seeing two different women besides my wife, but that's a whole story altogether. My point is that it became a big part of my addiction.
Depending on the person and whether or not they put their pleasures before God, I think is what makes it a sin or not.

No, I don't think it's a sin. It's the safest form of sex! Our sexuality is a very important aspect of who we are as persons. Masturbation has gotten a bad rap through the ages, but if you consider it as a form of releasing tension, allowing you to remain abstinent till you find that special person in your life with whom you will share the gift of your sexuality, then you can value it. Whereas in secular society people tend to use others for their own selfish gratification. As Christians we must avoid hurting others and should try to be responsible in all the aspects of our lives. Now, take care not to let it consume you, all excesses can be harmful; food, drink etc... and that's when it becomes sinful behavior. Moderation is the key.

I'm as christian as they come and I love to masturbate, My wife loves it too, it doesn't make us bad people, I think when its done in the proper setting it can be a real positive experience. I've read of study's done that say due to certain chemicals your body produces during sexual activity actual helps with headaches and other issues God wouldn't have given us this tool and not expect us to use it. But It does have the potential of leading to worse problems and addictions the key is to use it, and not let it use you.

Pills and masturbation will not solve the depression. It is addictive, butI know exactly what you mean by low self esteem. It can be powerful.

You might try volunteering help.

Well, there's your answer.

The only mention in the Bible, I think, is when Moses admonished the Hebrews not to let their seed touch the ground. This was all part of his encouraging them to save sex for reproduction so as to increase the population of the tribe so that they wouldn't be outnumbered by their enemies. Not all Mosaic law had anything to do with sin. The prohibitions against consuming pork and shellfish were just health measures, for instance.

Enjoy.

I don't think that the act in itself is sinful but I don't think that its pleasing to God. And plus the act opens you up desires that are not always going to be satisfied by yourself which could lead you to pre marital sex. You cant say that masturbating doesn't get you to thinking about the actual act of sex. So I say no don't do it if you don't want it to lead into other sin.
