Get a covered litter box with an odor filter and scoop it every day to keep it from smelling. She doesn't need to ever go out but if you decide to anyway she needs to stay in for at least a couple of months till she has established this as home. Have you scanned the neighborhood for dangers to kitty (roads, dogs, kids, cats to fight with, cat hating neighbors)? She will need to be spayed before she goes out too.

Ah, a two-fer.

1.) I'd wait several weeks before letting her outside. And when letting her out for the first few times, stay with her and keep it short.

2.) Litter tray should not stink, particularly with only 1 cat. Two suggestions. A.) Get a bigger cat box (with a lid); and B.) Scoop the poop at least once a day. This works with multiple cats and no odor.

I don't let my cats outside so I really don't know for sure how long to keep them inside. I would think that they should be used to you and comfortable with the new home environment before letting it go outside.

I have a large covered litter box and use Arm & Hammer clumping litter for multiple cats.

I have also used the pet crystals from tidy cat and this works well also. They say you only have to change it monthly & scoop daily. I confess I changed the litter weekly and it really works well also.

I am currently training my kitties to go on the toilet.... and it's really working well. Cats are so smart and can learn (if they are not too stubborned!).

Good Luck!

it's actually not legal to let cats out now.... all cats have a 24/7 curfew at least in Victoria anyways. i'd suggest laying down that litter that clumps together, and some baking soda, it absorbs smells really well....

1. you have to keep her inside for AT LEAST a month.
2. To make the litterboxes not smell, you clean them right after the cat has pooped. Never leave poop in the litterbox.
