Ear cropping is most often performed to comply with standards for various breeds. Several breeds either require ear cropping or accept cropped ears in the show ring. Whether or not to have the ears cropped, however, is a personal decision. The breeds most often associated with cropped ears include schnauzers, boxers, Great Danes, Doberman pinschers and miniature pinschers.
As ear cropping is a personal choice, I would also be angry with the vet. Personsal choices are not paid for by most breeders. Talk to your breeder about any conditions she may have with the vet. Most Yorkies do not get thier ears cropped just taped. Do not assume anything.
As for the teething. Teething begins at about 31/2 months and continues until the puppy reaches 6 or seven months. Teething does not start at five months.
Puppies ears are cropped before teething and are left a little longer so that the puppy can grow into them. Cropped ears after teething starts are cropped to an adults size as the ears do not grow much after that time. Teething will not hinder the cropping, only the ears growth rate.

If his ears won't stand on their own, they may just be a little weak yet.. He's young. As far as taping them, I wouldn't. It's uncomfortable. Some yorkies just don't have standing ears. I see it all the time, and they are just as cute with floppy ones. It only matters if your planning on showing the dog. If not, I would just leave them be. It's part of his personality and charm!! Love him for who he is. No one's perfect. There are no vitimins or minerials that will help his ears stand, and it won't matter if you shave the hair off to "make them lighter so they stand up". That's an old wives tale that cracks up a groomer every time, so don't buy into it.

Nobody can stop a vet from offering to crop a dog's ears. To be fair, you WERE already taping them, which is totally useless if the ears aren't cropped. The vet probably assumed you had been misinformed, and that you WANTED the ears cropped since you had already begun taping. It's not necessarily him being a bad vet, he might have just wanted to help. There's no point in harrassing the breeder with this information.
What you CAN do (and I do hope you removed the tape already, poor little dog... it will NOT work, I promise) is feed the dog a tablespoon of cottage cheese every day. This builds up the calcium in their body, which is what affects the ears being up or down. I used cottage cheese for my Papillon puppy when his ears flopped, and they came back up within a few days. You can keep up with the cottage cheese after they stand if you want, just to be on the safe side. My pup's still lay down for a few hours here and there, but they are mainly upright. And no tape needed. :-) With Yorkie's, you also have the option of having the hair shaved off the ears. A Yorkie pet cut traditionally has the ears shaved and scissored to a point, so if you wanted this look anyway and haven't done it yet, give it a shot. Sometimes removing the heavy hair is enough to help them stand on their own.

Well, if you took the dog to the breeders vet, I would assume they have an arrangement . If you want the ears to stand you should have listened to the vet. They went to school for many years so they can do that sort of thing. It isnt painful to the dog and they dont just take a pair of scissors and lop it off. I would have taken him up on his offer. Just me but, I love it when their ears stand. Yes, you can inform the breeder I do about everything but, I'm sure you wont be telling them anything they dont already know. A good breeder has a very personal relationship with their vet.

I see in your other post that your yorkie is 15 weeks old.
Right now, there are changes going on in the dog's jaw, which also can have effects on the ears. During this time, the ears may stand and fall, or sometimes one may stand and the other fall. It is fine. Give them a little while, until say, 6 months of age, and they should be standing full-time by then.

Well the first mistake you made was to take the advice of someone on here. What on Earth do you think you're doing? If someone told on here told you how to crop them yourself, would you have done that?
What you're talking about is cropping the dog's ears, which is a controversial subject anyway. If you don't want it done then good, don't. But don't blame the vet for offering it, as many people do want it done to conform to breed standards. I think it was fair enough for the vet to assume this is what you wanted, since you were taping the dog's ears!
For God's sake stop taping the poor little things ears and let them just be how they're supposed to be. It's a dog, not a doll. And do NOT take advice from strangers over the internet, that's an insane thing to do!
If you don't like the vet you're seeing, see another one. Why should the vet have called the breeder before cropping the ears anyway? This is YOUR dog, he only needs your consent before any procedure, he does not require the advice of a breeder, who are not medical professionals anyway.
The only real issue here is for you to find a vet you're happy with, and take advice from them, and them only. But the current vet has done nothing wrong.
Chalice
EDIT: I'm still more concerned about where your priorities lie here! Leave the dog's ears alone! What one answerer said in this case is probably true - the vet and breeder probably have a good relationship and the vet knows what the breeder usually has done. But I suggest you communicate with them both to get this sorted out and not waste any more time on here.

Did your breeder tape the ears on this pup for you??? If you did this yourself, have you ever done this before?? If done wrong this can be a big danger to the pup. Did you clip the hair on the ears before you taped?

Yorkies do not get their ears cropped!!! Other breeds, yes, but not a yorkie!
Sometimes they don't stand...did your vet suggest a way to help them stand up without chopping part of his ears off??
Trying another vet would probably be a good idea. One who isn't associated with the breeder.

LMAO, this whole thing is nuts, unless you're dog is competing as a show dog, why would you want to cut ears off of that poor little thing?
