You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'.
And you tell me, over and over and over again my friend.
You don't believe,
We're on the Eve of Destruction.

I shouldn't quote that old song to you, because you're only 19 and therefore it was before your time.

Unless you are a soldier or a marine or sailor or an airman, your question is irrelevant anyway.

I never understand why people are always in such a big hurry to be "grown up" and drink alcohol.

Really, it's not something like being able to vote or have access to healthcare.

Just wait already! Think of it as a rite of passage, of something to look forward to when you're older like you would driving.

It's the law.

Because at the age of 17, the average person is mentally developed and mature enough to soundly receive training in the military.

Outside of 14 year old French kids having a glass of wine with Sunday roast, the average underage drinker drinks alcohol for the wrong reasons, is more biologically liable to do long term damage to their liver and brain and fails to take things in moderation.

The minimum drinking age across the world should be 18, though. All these laws requiring you to be 21 I hear about are relics from a long-gone era that nobody's thought about replacing.

honey that is the oldest question in the miltary handbook... i think everyone who is under 21 and in the military asks the same thing. get stationed over seas and some countries really dont care so you can go offbase and drink, but its not wise because as soon as you step foot back on the base, you can get into serious trouble. it is crap, but its the rules.

Because there are laws regulating use of alcohol to those under 21.

It is ****** up. If you are in the military at 19, you should be able to drink at 19.

Lord, it's just alcohol, get over it. I dont understand why everyone seems to believe getting wasted is so damn important. There's bigger things in life then that.
